# About me

I am an artist and photographer, born and raised in San Diego. Currently living in San Diego. I have been taking photos since the summer of 06' when i took a photography class at my highschool. To say the least, i was hooked, and began photographing all kinds of different scenes and subjects for the class. During the class i found that it was very easy to me, and i finished all of my assignments long before due, giving me time to doodle. ^-^ hence the birth of slops...

i then began writing graffiti. As most writers do, i went through a few different names before finding out who i was, i always get messy while painting. Especially if attempting to be extremely careful. eventually i graduated to doing canvas work vs being a mischevious youth. Years into my career as an artist i began drawing mandalas for fun with ballpoint pens on scratch paper while at work between photo sessions. (I worked for lifetouch national school studios for a couple of years, one of which doing yearbook photos, and the other season taking senior portaits.) eventually i had the idea to paint a canvas with a mandala as the main focus. my first "perfect imperfection" as i call my geometrical formations had approx 100hrs into it... do to my frustration with attempting to perfect every little detail. but over time, i've learned to embrace the beauty in the imperfections of my art, and capture a feeling, feelings, or even a moment in time. i really enjoy doing the work i do, and i have found that nearly every city i travel to the people there appreciate my work as well. Appreciation means a lot to me, more then any amount of money could be given for a piece. which is why i decided to join this community of artists to archive my work amongst like minded people, and to possibly make some great connections with people around the world to spread what IS.

Dear Mike,

I ran into you last Sunday and was captivated by the piece you had been working on (in front of Jamba Juice): vibrant pink background with colorful spirit beings, chakras and auras all joined together with a ribbon. I love it. Thank you so much for your enthusiasm and energy. I hope to run into you again this summer and the best of luck to you.

random question.

you draw your mandalas by hand, black... then scan and color?
curious to see the techniques other artists have.

Hi. Yes, that's exactly what I do. Sometimes I use pencil first but always finish with black fineliners. Then I scan and colour in Photoshop.. stroke by stroke.. very time consuming but i enjoy it and there is a great sense of achievement when it's finished :D (Big Grin)

cool, ive yet to come across another person in real life that draws mandalas. so im interested in seeing others techniques.

i like to do everything freehand, applying multiple layers to get my end results.
