Yeah, Aleksandra is a very, veeery popular name in Poland, and it's usually shortened to "Ola"

Skribble-Chibi In reply to Smimon [2014-09-25 21:21:15 +0000 UTC]
Okay But how do you get from Aleksandra to Ola? That is a mystery to me XD

Smimon In reply to Skribble-Chibi [2014-09-26 08:52:29 +0000 UTC]
Was a mistery for me too, for most of my lifeΒ xDΒ But in the Ukraine theΒ name isΒ spelled "Oleksandra", and Ukraine used to be part of Poland for some centuries, so I think that could be the reason. Not to mention Sienkiewicz's book Potop, probably the most popular novel in Poland ever, where the hero's love interest is Aleksandra, sometimes called OleΕka. I was named after this book's character xD

Ah cool! Youre named after a book character My name is Maya, and my parents chose it because it means something with goddes of growing in *insert right language here*, but also because of the Bee Maya Tecnically i am named after a children series character XD Oh when i was younger, all the people and the mean kids called me Bee or little Bee or stuff like that, and i was always so embarrased XD But i like the name And i like the Name Aleksandra too, the german version would be with an 'x' (Alexandra)

That's some cool name I know that Bee! She's called Maja in Poland, and is very popular in my country and like every other name in Poland, there are "shortcuts" (diminutives? no idea how it's called in English xD) for it like Majka, Majeczka etc. (I met once a guy from Germany who was enjoying the fact that in Poland every name is usually shortened. In fact, we use the full versions of first names almost only in official situations. In Polish language everything has to be complicated xD but I find it really cute)
As far as I know, my name comes from greek "Alexander" which means "guardian" so yeah, another ancient name o3o

Skribble-Chibi In reply to Smimon [2014-09-27 17:55:17 +0000 UTC]
Oh okay That with the shortcuts sound quite difficult And okay, we give some people with longer names nicknames, because we are too lazy to say 'Elisabeth' or 'Friederike' I know two people with those names, and we call them Elli and Freddy Nicknames are fun to give, but if your name is already short enough, you mostly don't get one because it is fine with calling your normal name Bute everybody can get a nickname, mine is May, but only my sister calls me that German is pretty easy:3 But it has it's difficult things too:/ But with the names, it is pretty funny:3 We younger people are often making fun of those 'old names' like Olaf or GΓΌnter, because we, or at least most of us, think they sound horrible and old fashioned XD

I called my South Africa OC Tsepo after I saw that one of football/soccer players from that country had this name. I don't know any African names so I thought this would be the best option
But still I can't find any good last name for him ;_;
