I'm really not sure about me.

I was homeless last year and now, I am not.  I have had a car almost all of my life and now, I do not.  I exist but I do not live.

I'm glad that you have been traveling.  If you were near San Francisco, I might have met you and didn't know it.

ahah no I lived in Boston for a couple of months, but next time I'll be in the US I'll be in California so maybe we'll meet !

Boston should have been very interesting.  I've never been there, but I've known a few people from the area.

My health is sufficient but I can't say that I feel more than just okay.  I continue to survive.

Thank you.

I have been wondering what would happen with my VW diesel-powered car.  Saturday, I gave it back.  They're supposed to pay me for it, since they cheated on the emissions and all, but almost two days exactly, and nothing so far.

It's all done.  They got my car and in 2.5 days, they were sending me money, probably because I was on Twitter, telling the world.

Still, I was without a car from Saturday to Wednesday.  Now, I'm so relieved to be finished with the whole mess.  It's been extra chilly--almost down to freezing during the night--and I just don't handle it well.

When you say "extra chilly" what temperature is it ?
Well I'm glad it's over now, I hope you aren't stressed out by other misfortunes

They were doing something that no other car company had ever done.  I imagined problems but didn't think that I'd be the one to "enjoy" them.

It was around +2 at night and +6 during the day, which compared to +40 in the summer, is a bit chilly.

I was almost homeless, but things are working out for another 7 months, unless I'm stupid.

Oh yeah, big difference. It reminds me of the fact that in my region in France we go through -10°c in mornings, and it was even announced that we would reach -27°c but it has not been the case for my city ! I'm terrified for the homeless who go through such temperatures... I have taken my situation too much  for granted, I am lucky to have a heated house.

oh wow what happened ? I hope it indeed worked out !

Also, I am sorry for all the late answers, I could at least make more efforts to visit the website more regularly.

In my case, I expected to die around January 2015, and my heart defect kept me from working, though I did look for jobs when I arrived here.  I simply ran out of money.

As my Volkswagen Golf diesel was being returned to the company, I ended up buying another, cheaper car and saved the rest.  I also sold a few of my mother's things that I held as long as possible.  I should have sold them earlier, as the value dropped but I was trying to be loyal.

It must be really hard to be holding up in such conditions, do you stay optimistic ?

It must have been really rough to sell them but you did what you could to survive, I hope you don't blame yourself too much.

Here is Manteca, California, near the Pacific Coast.

I'm okay with dying.  It's living that is frustrating.  I have no control over my heart's condition.

Life is what it is.

I hope that you can be hopeful during your days.

It's probably the reason people from the U.S.A. have such a poor opinion of the French--they only went to Paris.

Better to go to Nice, probably.

It's a bit funny you saying that. Yesterday I had a conversation with someone from Nice, and yes, you're right it's better to go there according to her. Basically anywhere BUT Paris.

sakaphotogrfx In reply to Somelarder [2015-12-10 22:48:29 +0000 UTC]

I can see how they hate tourists, though.

When I was in Japan for a month-long visit, I met many non-Japanese who couldn't speak, read, or write Japanese and they were a problem.  If I was in France, I couldn't speak well enough, but maybe within a week, I would be fine.  French seems easier than Portuguese.  Portuguese seems like Spanish + French + American accent.    Japanese is fairly simple but Westerners always have problems with it.

Visiting Nice would be nice.    I seem to remember something about Côte d'Azur being connected, but that might have just been my adoptive dad's time on the coast of France while in the U.S. Navy.

Somelarder In reply to sakaphotogrfx [2015-12-12 21:45:58 +0000 UTC]

I think they should feel flattered by the idea of people leaving their country to visit another.

Did you enjoy your time in Japan ? It must be a great experience.
it must be hard to ajust to a country when you can't even understand a minimum the language, tourists should be prepared too.
Wow, you really think french is easier than portuguese ? That is the first time I have ever heard someone say that french is easier than another language considering it frightens a lot of people. French is really complicated, and portuguese seems so be a bit like Spanish. I talked about it in spanish class with a portuguese friend of mine, and he told me that the sounds in portuguese are really kind of "exotic" compared to spanish or french. Lots of "ao" kinds of sounds.
Sometimes I feel like the majority of westerners can't tell the difference between Chinese and Japanese, that's a bit sad

Yeah that's it. It seems like there is a lot of military activity near the area, some people I know always used to go in "missions" there. I guess it's a strategic point because it gives into the meditarrean sea.

sakaphotogrfx In reply to Somelarder [2015-12-13 09:13:25 +0000 UTC]

You might think that, but it doesn't seem to work out like that.  Even more, the people of Québec, in Canada, really have had a problem at times with French French instead of Canadian French: Pommes Frites versus Patates Frites, as I recall, is a good example.

American tourists traveling the U.S.A. have been known to make fun of the local people who just don't sound the same as them.  I wonder if it's that way for people in other countries.

In Japan, things are rather polite, but that has become less so.  It's very different than most countries in Asia, although the South Korean people are fairly polite.

I love Japan and going home for the first time was difficult and wonderful.  I haven't returned and since my life is at an end, I probably should.  Things make sense there.  My normal is fairly normal, unlike here in the U.S.A.

With French, you just throw out half the letters and pronounce the remainder.      Brazilian Portuguese is even more interesting than that of Portugal.  It's somewhat Italian.  If you can access the Duolingo app on iOS or Android, you should try it.  I learned French off-and-on a few times and I was learning a lot from classical music and then, speaking at work.

Japanese is easier to recognize by reading because it uses two extra character sets, but Chinese is consistent in only using one, even for spelling.  You can tell Korean from either because you'll see circles (the null sound) in the characters.  Equally, you'll hear more complex sounds for words in Japanese than in Chinese.  For example, 林 which means woods or forest, depending on the language, is Hayashi in Japanese but Lim, Lin, or Lam in Chinese.  it's a family name, which is why I capitalized it.  If you knew that one of those (木)was tree, you might guess that two (林)or three (森)of them was woods or forest.  Hopefully, you can see those.

Oh I have heard about stuff like that, I didn't think it was that serious ! It reminds me of the stupid conflict between americans who say soccer and the english one who say football. It's just ridiculous ahah

In France we make fun of each other's accents. There are some regions where some people have a typical accent, but it's just fun

Japanese people must not be that eager anymore to welcome disrespectful tourists.
How is it in the USA ?

Yeah that's basically it
It's very interesting, i'll try that app !

I've seen a bit of the korean alphabet, it looks really different I think. A friend of mine told me it was really cool to learn !
Oh okay now I get it. I always thought it was really complex. I guess it still is, but in a very logical way

The Quebeçois were so particular that they wouldn't buy a car because of the name.  Then, the company changed the name to Parisienne, and it became the best selling car in the province.

I always find it funny to hear the American pronunciation for lingerie or most anything French.  I know that people from any country will mess up another country's language but I've heard so many mistakes, it's difficult to ignore.

Americans in the middle of the country generally don't want anyone who isn't just like them.  If you're a White, Anglo-Saxon Protestant (WASP), you'll usually be fine.  If you're a furner (foreigner), forget it.

It's funny how much trouble I have with Korean, yet I get by at times.  I suspect that (15 years ago or more) I could be dropped into any country and within a week, I'd be nearly as good as a native.  I once went to my cousin's ex-wife's family's house to spend the day and they were Indian from Fiji Islands.  The father understood English but didn't speak any.  I couldn't even recognize which language he was speaking but by the afternoon, I could answer him in English and we were having conversations and playing cards.

Well I guess this marketing strategy paid off really well for the company. I love how ridiculous this is

It always makes me smile too when I watch tv-shows for example when I hear a french word. Americans can't say the letter "U" the way it is in France. I find it really cute
Yeah there lots and lots of mistakes. Especially in french because for instance english people do not get the concept of having different words in france for "the, a or an" whether the word that follows is masculine or feminine. Well just like in Spanish.

Oh and is it true that a lot of americans living in the south are a bunch of racists ? I always try not to believe that kind of stuff

That must have been a great experience getting along with someone you have trouble understanding at first. So you think that now you wouldn't be able to do the same ?

sakaphotogrfx In reply to Somelarder [2015-12-13 23:19:59 +0000 UTC]

I specifically say "fox pass" instead of "faux pas" to make fun of people who think that they know French.  I am evil.

Racism is still a problem all over the country but the south and south east are the worst.  I talk frequently about Quiet Prejudice because it still happens, even though it's a crime to beat someone on the streets.  Years ago, I was going to lunch and I went to a different area that was mostly inhabited by black people.  The secretary said something about "those people" and I started to give her a lecture, and decided to just go to lunch because I knew it wouldn't change her mind.  As far as I was concerned, I was one of "those people".

My heart defect has been a problem for me, and just like people after their heart attacks, I'm having trouble with my mind.  I'm just not able to do much any longer.  My mind used to be strong and my memory stronger but now, I live with far too much confusion.
