And in case you're wondering where this came from, the Sly Cooper series has this as a running gag in every single one of their games. And they even acknowledge it as the circle button, thus factoring in a 4th wall breech.

Eeeeyup...Although, I think a more realistic idea would be that one of the artists or animators for the show was playing FF8 at the time...or remembered it from his childhood.
