well I think it's a good camera for the beginners in photography, it's very simple to understand and also gives nice colors and quality for the start.
but actually I know that there are new models of it now, such as nikon d3100 or d5000 - they can be a little bit better, for example they have more pixels, it means your photos will be more qualitative. but they are a bit more expensive, of course
