# About me

I'm a middle-aged engineer, hoping to discover a hidden abilty to draw.

Unfortately it's a very well hidden abilty.

However, I find drawing/inking relaxing so will persist trying to create some graphic novels.

My pleasure. You're one of my favourite artists on DA (along with derekjones ) - you consistently create beautiful paintings that are very focused and with vibrant use of colour.

Hi, Ted, and an early good morning to you from California. Thank you for the fave on Prologue to Extreme Dreams 12 . I'm glad people are still viewing my concept drawings. I'm still planning to do that graphic novel; but swamped with other art projects at the moment.
Cheers,
Ed

No worries. I like a lot of your watercolours. I've got familty near Truro, so know the area a bit. I really like this one though: having the red in the castle and the person's coat on opposite corners works well. And the strips of blue running horizontally along the middle is an effective way to create waves. Thanks.

Good evening, TedHit. Greetings from California, where I'm eight hours behind you, just beginning my slog through the final work day of the week. Firstly, thanks so much for the llama and DA watch. It's great to wake up to feeling supported. I read in your profile about your hopes "to discover a hidden ability..." If you have a chance to read my journals or the blog on my website, I'm strongly convinced that we're all with no exceptions born creative beings, whether visually, musically, kinesthetically, etc. In other words, we're all born artists; but there are social processes that kill it in most. From my perspective, your ability is there. I don't anticipate it will take long to find it again and develop it. Just curious and interested, but may I ask what kind of engineering you do? I'm also exploring the feasibility of doing graphic novels, coming at it really late in the game. It's a lot of work on top of a full-time day job and the visual art that's my passion; so not sure I can get to it without "retiring", though. I just yesterday finished my first read of Kneece's "Art of Comic Book Writing", which I found comprehensive and helpful.
Cheers,
Ed

Hi Ed. Sorry for not replying sooner. You emailed me the day I left to go on holiday!

I will start reading your blog. I agree that everyone has the ability to be artistically creative - for me it's mainly a case of overcoming the frustration with my ability not matching the ambition (i.e. I can't get onto the page what's in my brain...). Hopefully it will improve with perseverance - most things do.

I trained as an electronics engineer, but now mainly do project management for engineering projects.

Although I do have a story in mind, with respect the graphic novel. I mainly started it as a way to get into the habit of drawing regularly - as trying to get a story onto paper got me drawings lots of faces and scenery. And it could all be quite simply sketchy types of things, so there was never the temptation to get bogged down doing one drawing. Most of the people I watch on DA who are doing graphic novels seem to average about one page a week - so it's slow progress.

I'm sure I'll be back in touch, commenting on your blog,

(Another) Ed

No worries. I have a soft spot for impressionist landscapes. This one, to me, seemed particularly luscious. The sky is very fluid.
