LOL. Love the 'Stupid Shit Freelancers Do' note above. I ran into the same problem with an artist I worked with who complained that I was 'telling her what to do'. Her position was that anything she gave me, bearing a resemblance to what I described, was perfect... any change I wanted was a mistake.
Her attitude was that I was the supplicant begging for some artsy handout when I was the one paying (agreed amount) for a specific work. I'm a writer and was getting book covers. When she cut me loose (or I quit dealing with her) I had to pay for redo covers from a serious, businesslike artist who could do as I required. These were books in a series and I needed the same style throughout.
I understand your frustration in looking for an editor/ writer for the comic project you're working on. I would suggest you keep looking until you're satisfied with all aspects of the correct person. Finding someone online is always possible but you may desire searching in your locality for a writer's group or comic writer's group where you can find someone/ meet someone and reach an understanding/ relationship more readily.
I fear the idea of professionalism is failing. It's too easy online to make and break promises, whether you have a contract or not.
Best of luck in your endeavors.
