Sooooo sorry for being such a lazy jerk but here is the part of our art trade I've been owing you since forever
Really, sorry for being such an ass >.<
Back then I was kinda busy, then I forgot about it and today I remembered again and finally finished it with their new designs.
I'm horrible and you are alowed to hate me now for being so unreliable
Shame on me, haha.

That's all right. The piece has been done, so all is well and good, haha.
You even got them in their new design and it rocks! Definitely looks like they're out to hunt darker and more dangerous demons. Thanks so much!

Thank you for the watch! I stumbled upon your gallery and I was fascinated by Arsenio design... I did not expect a watch, but I'm very glad you like my works
I like your character sheets... I might make some for my characters as well.
I'm having pretty rough times with my project lately, so I'm asking almost anyone about what format should choose to introduce my story and characters to people out there.

You're welcome! I find your style fresh and intriguing, like coming out from a fantasy storybook, so I couldn't help but hit that watch button, hehe.
Thanks! Now that'd be fun, I'll look forward to that. Speaking of Arsenio, I'm actually cooking up a new character sheet for Arsenio's lovely assistant.
Oooh, what is your project about? Sounds like an interesting endeavor you've got there.

leevolt In reply to Tevarro [2016-04-04 17:43:17 +0000 UTC]
Well, my project is about a story that involves almost all my characters. Although I've been working on it for six years (even a bit more...yes, I was a child when I started) I still don't have a title, for example, nor I have complete character sheets, because characters are constantly evolving D:
I've been able to write down almost half of the story in Italian, though, and this is one of the biggest issues I have now: translation. To make the story recognizable for people from around the world (like here on Deviantart) I need to use English, but I fear to lose some of the language choices I made in my native language.
Anyway, I should simply fear not, find a good title and start posting those damn sheets. You'll be able to see the world of the story first, then, in a (hoping) close future, the story itself.
By now, you can see some of the characters in my gallery, but you can take "seriously" only the pieces from my "featured". Thank you very much for your interest, and if you have any tips on making character sheets, they're hugely welcome!
PS: I want to see Arsenio's assistant so badly now...

Wow, that's long! The project Arsenio's in is also about 5-6 years in the making. Do you mind if I ask as to what your story is about?
Haha, true, true! Years can do that to one's characters. It's fun when they evolve. Though, yes, it takes time revamping them too.
Of course! I do love a good story and I would love to help you out in your project. For character sheets, I just look at sheets from other artists then come up with a style of my own. You'll also have to take into consideration that the sheets are intended for other artists to draw your character, so it should show stuff that they will need like their physical look, personality, or a brief backstory. More detailed sheets usually have the character displayed in different angles or even a closeup of details like accessories or clothing texture.
Would you happen to have a Facebook account? A preview of her is in my FB Page . I usually stuff my sketches there first and submit the final artwork here. Cecile will probably take a couple or more days before her character sheet's ready to submit though.

Well, I don't have a facebook page (I used to have one, then I found it was divouring my spare time...) but I'll be sure to check out Cecile as soon as she comes out here.
About the story:
What I can say is that the story is about a Continent. This continent contains mainly four intelligent species and four main cultures (plus one more!) and three powerful figures of this continent are pursuing each other in order to get back a precious ancient "key" that has been stolen. These monarchs are the Queen of the Green Shining City (sounds like it's coming out from the Wizard of Oz? That's because it is.), the Marquis of Dendera (way less powerful but tricky. He's the munchkin guy you can see at the bottom of my piece "monochrome") and Maù, an unpredictable and childlike being with a huge patience and a curious sense of time. You can see him too under the section "characters".
This is not the plot, actually, because the story itself develops around other characters, way less powerful and way more relaxed. They are my true protagonists, and they simply get unconsciously involved in the ancient item-hunt. These characters are not all on the same side; first of all we have Stilo Calgiolo (ooh, my native tongue starts to get noticed): a munchkin watchmaker with a soldier past, quite calm, quite selfish. Then we have Grizzò Chillèt (french pronunciation), my happy-go-lucky guy. There's more to show than to say about him.
Finally, on the other side of the balance there is Elio, the Dandarian Captain of city guards. You can see him on "monochrome" too. Despite the dark look, believe me: he's not evil. There are not real villains in my story. There is a lot of blood though, but not villains. It may seem not, but I prefere grays to black and white There are lots of other minor characters, but I can't talk about them, or I'd finish to write this comment tomorrow in the evening... You know, the thing I love the most in my story is the daily little events that happen to characters, even greater ones. I have a special place in my heart for little things. Also, although there are "curious" facts or unexplainable things, there's not magic in my story. Anyway, as soon as I post the more "encyclopedic" sheets you'll be able to know more.
I hope you didn't get sleepy :3 thank you very much for your advice, I'll give a look to other character and creature sheets and I'll start working soon!
Ciao!

Well, good news: She's now in my gallery! You can check her out either in my featured or in the Project: Odium folder.
Wow! I'm actually surprised by its sheer detail and I do love how you've got different factions competing each other. Their names are bringing me further into fantasy - wonderful, wonderful! I saw them initially and I fell in love with your designs. I'll take another look so I can savor the details of each piece, hehe.
Indeed, the first I saw Elio, I thought he seemed like an antagonist of sorts. Good thing you got that cleared out. I'd love to know more about your world - the species' cultures, religions, social classes. If they've got armies, then that'd be swell too! I also love imagining the little details of my characters too - how they'd react to certain issues or situations, for instance.
Sleepy? You got me wide awake, both eyes and mind. I'm glad you shared a piece of your world - reading it was a delectable treat.
Oh, and you're welcome!

I'm so glad you like the project! Although most of the people who comment on my pieces say they are good, there are not so many of them who are genuinely interested in the background story!
I hope this will change a bit when I post the sheets. Maybe I'll make them in order to be put into a book one day, so I'd better start to study the format... so much thungs to do... uauauau.
I saw Cecile, and I really liked her. I wonder how she looks under the mask. About Arsenio, I think that some masked people should remain masked...

Well, I do love world-building - obsessed with it, actually. It's just I haven't met a fellow world-builder for quite some time. So I'm so glad to have met you! I'm always up for discussion regarding worlds and world-building, so if you'd like to discuss yours further you can always hit me up with a note or chat if you feel like it.
Well, it works to work on it one step at a time. Along the way, ideas will start popping and plans will start materializing! Any idea how long will you finish the project so far?
Thanks! Glad you liked her. Not sure if I'll ever reveal Cecile's face... but if I do, it'll probably happen within the story. Arsenio's probably going to be unmasked too at some point - though yes, you're right that it won't be pretty when he does, haha.
I still got a couple more characters coming up - Ariadne's sister and an old character who might be integrated into the story. But I think I'll take a short breather and try another work for the moment.

1- I'm truly happy about meeting you too! As you said, fellow world makers are a rare gift. I'll probably ask you something by note about characters and stuff. Also, I'm always in need for opinions, and you could be a good critic, obviously only if you want to do that!
2- I have no idea about when I'll end the project... I guess I'll end it when it will be totally refined and satisfactory-looking. Yeah, it will take some time. Luckily, I have no deadline, but I want to work hard on it (unlike how I'm doing now)...
3- By the way, I saw your project logo (projectOdium, right?) and I started nosebleeding. I need a good title for my messy story too.
4- We share almost the same opinion on masks, then! You know, I've never been able to draw Elio without his mask! I mean, he likely wouldn't go at the grocery store with his armored guard outfit. Same for his mask I guess. Said that, I'm not able to imagine him without it. I think that if he puts off his mask he would find a mask tattooed underneath.
Last answer-last question! What's the other project you're going to try?

1 - Oh, I'd love to! Anything to help a fellow world-builder. In fact, I'm glad you considered me to get opinions and constructive criticism. Thanks!
2 - You could put a soft deadline or doable deadlines on portions of your project if you want. One at a time. Like do reference sheets this month and writing drafts on the next. It's just a suggestion, since I must admit that I have yet to put one on mine. But I believe I should - otherwise, I may constantly delay the project until it may get shelved again.
3 - Nosebleeding, oh dear! Hope you didn't lose too much blood, though... anyway, why so? And yes, Project Odium is the name, though it may also be just called Odium when the project is finally complete.
4 - Indeed, he'd look funny in that, haha. A tattooed mask is quite an idea you got there - something that'll definitely throw off the readers when Elio is finally unmasked. Though it'd make one wonder why he wears a mask in the first place - perhaps to protect his face rather than hide it?
It's a little something on the side. I just finished Fallout 4 the other day and I believe it's high time I do some tribute/fan art of it - the game was awesome, after all. Probably draw my Sole Survivor, my favorite companion, and a well-known character in the game. Speaking of which, have you played the game?
I'm also planning on working this contest entry, which the deadline's next week. So I'll probably work on that too since there's a deadline. My other characters in Project Odium can wait.
If you got other questions, just ask away! I'm always up for questions, haha. Haven't had a hearty conversation like this for a long time, after all.

I absolutely have to try out Fallout. I've come in touch with Skyrim this winter (I'm a bit late, am I not?) and I already love Mom Bethesda and her unintentional lovely bugs. Lots of people I know say I should play Fallout. I guess I'll save some money with my bros and buy it someday. Soooo, I know absolutely nothing about the game, as I'm quite good at not being spoilered. I have still to say that I'll never be able to get a Ps4, so if you ever spoiler me Fallout 4 it would not be this dramatic. If you want to introduce me the characters, you're welcome.
Speaking of videogames story and design, as you could imagine, I fell in love more with the Souls serie and Bloodborne. I mean, you're feeding me with armored knights and hunters in cocked hats and black leather coats and you don't expect me to love the serie? Sadly I'm a total noob in Dark Souls. Still have to beat Taurus Demon.
I failed you, Artorias!
About nosebleeding, that was because I actually love your logo. I love to blend letters and words too, I've got a soft spots for ancient symbols and I still did not find a good title for my story. Bah, I'll just keep trying new names and come up with a list. You could tell me what are your favourite names of the list too.

Yes. You. should. get. Fallout 4. It is super-duper-mega-triple-decker-awesome!
It's all right. I still play Skyrim from time to time too and I finished the game almost a couple of years ago (or was that just last year? I lost track, hehe). Indeed, Bethesda does make rockin' games in spite of the bugs. Do you play in PC or console?
Indeed! I love the Dark Soul series too. Also Bloodborne. Their designs, from the character to the monsters and even environment, are awesome. But I never finish those games. Ever. Have you finished them? The longest I've played was in Dark Souls 2 but stopped after defeating the Pursuer.
Aw, thanks! Naming the project was easy, but designing that logo took hours, haha. But definitely worth it. Makes the works looks more like a legit part of a project, like how certain video games release concept art and you see the logo of the company or game title on it. Also lets people distinguish which work belongs to which project.
All right-y! Will look forward to that list. I can also suggest names if you want, hehe.

Ou, I'm sorry for being so late to answer, I had a pretty rough family time these days :/ anyway, first of all, I'm mainly a playstationist. I started playing Spyro in a super old ps1 when my hands were even too small for the joystick, I've grown up with Crash Bandicoot (warped!) and similar games. Later, I've been lucky enough to get a ps3 with Journey, and that little game almost changed my life (and no, I'm not exaggerating...)
To play the Souls I use a friend's Steam account, but I play very rarely. I have to say that I played only a bit of Dark Souls (Prepare to Die edition) with my own slot. And my character was named Gigio, so you can see I take the game seriously. About Dark Souls II, I only played it as my friend's character, and only for a few lives. Lately, instead of Souls games (who would need me to play often and never get rusty) I use my Pc for some runs of The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth. I love how it's cute, ironic and horrible at the same time, but I can't say it's extremely inspiring. You totally have to check out the first Binding of Isaac soundtrack, though! The first game had such a wonderful and refined music!
I envy you for your easy feel about naming your project... I've thought about names for years, but they never seemed to fit my project. I'd like to get a light name, because I don't want my story to seem epic when it's not. One or two simple and iconic words (possibly in english) could hit the spot. Since in my project there's lots of desert, I could name it after it. I like also the name IV (four in Latin) because it sounds like Eve, but can also be read as a number. If you have any sudden inspirations, feel free to suggest me!

It's all right! We all can be pretty busy with real-world stuff, haha. What's going on with the family, if I may ask?
Wow, that's quite an amazing childhood you got there! Ah, Crash Bandicoot - such a classic and memorable game. You just sent me back to wonderful ol' Memory Lane there. Just curious, how old are you?
Indeed, you're right - the thing about the Souls series is that you need to constantly play the game so you don't get rusty if ever you stop playing for a while. That becomes detrimental when you're working on the day and drawing at night, leaving the weekends to play video games... by the way, speaking of Souls... Dark Souls 3 is coming out at a local game store here tomorrow, perhaps it might be out already wherever you are, in case you might be interested.
Ooh, a soundtrack, that I must check out!
Well, you could try this guide: If you could describe your project in one word, what would it be? And once you find that word, search a thesaurus. I got "Odium" as a synonym of hatred, since I thought it was related to malice - the name of the fuel that runs in the demons of my story. Also, since it's a project title, you could just come up with any name under the sun and use it as a working title, a temporary name, if that may be the best way to describe it. After all, titles are normally made after a story rather than before it, so you can expect that you'll get the perfect title just before finishing the project.
Since you mentioned desert, let's try it! Here's some synonyms you could use as a project name: arid, desolate, barren (nouns); abjure, forlorn, forsake (verb).
Also, IV sounds like a wicked cool name. Though if you're looking for something light, I'd suggest IV could be the secret title of the project while you use a more common name as the working title of the project. That way, when the project's complete, you can go something like: Boom! Here's the actual title of my work, IV, the result of project common name! Just a thought, though.

It's always nice to see your comment ^-^
To answer in order:
My grandpa died on Thursday at the venerable age of 89, and these days we have been quite busy with the funerals. We are a large family, and the fact the creator of our family died was very sad, expecially for my grandma. This is why I mentioned sad family times.
About childhood, yesss... I miss my wheezing ps1 and my old crash bandicoot disc full of scratches and dust. I remember that, sometimes, my mum screamed at me saying that if me and my dad kept playing videogames all the day, she would have thrown the ps1 out of the window. In my 5 year old mind, I often imagined myself rushing to the garden in order to stop outside the window and save my beloved ps1. Ah, lauaghable times.
Anyway, I'm 19, but I happily consider myself a being without age. You?
About gaming, me and my friend are waiting for Dark Souls 3 to pop out for weeks. We'll probably buy the expanded version, though.
About names, your name guide is pretty useful, as it forces you to find a certain path for your project. Describing my word with a name, that would be hard.
I think the most important element is fluidity: the story itself is a work in progress where transformations and development follow my personal evolution. I like to think about it in terms of blood: blood is the fluid element that's characteristic of our lives, that continue to flow ciclically in our bodies. It fills the heart, it nourishes the brain, it leaves us if we are going to die by wound, it becomes blue-black and stagnant when we are dead. (and so, even when blood circulation has ended, our bodies enter a new stage of transformation which is decomposition, and so on.)
I thought about desert because it's like the "blood" of the continent. It connects lands, peoples and cultures, and it hides (and preserves) their common, ancient history.
If I could find something related with blood, fluidity and transformation, it would be good.
IV sounds well, but it only depicts the fact that in the continent there are four main species. Now that I focus, the story is not about that.
Aaaaand about your story? I read with pleasure the character sheets and their description, but I still wonder how their environment looks like, and what kind of plot could host them. I've also seen (on my bro's facebook) that Arsenio is a sort of antagonist. Wanna know! OwO

And it's always nice to see yours!
Sorry to hear about that. I'd say more, but I'm not sure what's the best thing to say in such a kind of somber occasion...
Oh, you used to play video games with your dad? Now that's what one great daughter-and-dad moment! I could imagine the sort of shenanigans you and your dad might have together, haha.
Haha, I agree. I'd like to say 19 too, but that's just about how I think I am. I'm 23, though I've honestly forgotten my age several times when people would ask me. Considering your age, does that mean you're still schooling right now?
Oh, have you gotten the game already? It's out here, but I haven't gotten it yet as I'm afraid I won't be able to finish it...
Thanks! Wow, you do drive a good point about how blood could be a good word to describe your story. Well, since you mentioned "blood, fluid, transformation", let's try the guide - finding a word and using the thesaurus - again: ichor, vermillion, crimson, carmine, rubicund (blood); quicksilver, mellifluous (fluid); mercurial, labile, protean, metamorphosis, revolution (transformation).
Well, the story is set in the metropolis of Metro Avado, a colony of the Espadan Empire that has been suffering an outbreak of demons (which are more like dieselpunk-ish robotic monsters) that wreak havoc within the metropolis' walls at night. Many of the inhabitants in Metro Avado have resorted to demon-hunting in an attempt to quell the outbreak, though the demons' numbers never seem to dwindle. The story follows Elianne (our main protagonist) as one of these hunters. And yes, Arsenio is an antagonist of my story and will play a role that has a significant impact to Elianne's life, haha.
I have an outline of the story and its first few chapters. However, for now I'm currently writing the story's world so I get a more solid idea on how my world works - that way, I can write the story with the world flowing with it.

Thank you for your thoughts. It's always difficult to say something when someone loses a relative, and silence can be more comforting than words sometimes.
About age, I finished high school last July, and I'm going to attend some summer Illustration classes this August... I hope to learn a lot, because I want my spare money to be well spent!
I'm still thinking about the title... Probably it will take a while. Curiously one of my possible titles, "Sixth Finger", has already been taken from a web fashion magazine! D:<
This means I'll have to squeeze my brains more...
I like your idea... and the dark-steampunkish demons as well. Arsenio's and Cecile's outfits had a familiar scent for my steampunk addicted nose, but also a likeable malicious orange touch.
May I ask something? Names such as "Metro Avado", "Espadan Empire", and your own username "Tevarro" remember me of Spanish-sounding words... but since your profile page tells you're from Philippines, I wonder why you chose this kind of sound. How's your native language like?
Sorry for this weird question, but I'm quite a fan of languages and sounds, and I like to ask this every time I find someone speaking a language I don't know.

You're welcome; indeed and agreed.
Oh, cool! Now that's a great way to keep the mind and hands active while anticipating for the next chapter of education. So you're moving to college after summer, right?
All right-y then. If you need more names or help, let me know! And aw, "Sixth Finger" would've been awesome title...
Thanks! Indeed, I was trying for that sort of theme so it was a good thing it can be seen in Arsenio and Cecile. And yes, orange does seem to have an evil sort of aura, doesn't it?
Well, I can't say I'm an expert at my native tongue, but the Philippine language shares/borrows some words from the Spanish language since we were colonized by them centuries ago. For instance, our college professor told us how the Philippine greeting "kumusta" ("how are you") is derived from the Spanish greeting "como esta". The terms I use have their own individual stories, though - "Avado" is an anagram of a certain city in the Philippines with Metro since it's used to describe a metropolis; "Espadan Empire" since it's based on the real-world Spanish Empire (the reason I chose to name it after 'espada' - sword - is another story); and "Tevarro" since it was the name of a Portuguese Explorer I made in Age of Empires III (whose full name was Estevan Tevarro III), one of my childhood games.
About the Espadan Empire... the funny thing is, I originally chose to base my fictional empire on the Spanish Empire not because of its significance to my country, but because of their Inquisition, which is quite a famous one. The fictional empire I envisioned was supposed to be technologically advanced, yet infamous for being strict with adhering to the laws of its religion so it needed a powerful entity to enforce it. Initially, I envisioned the empire to be Italian-Renaissance-inspired (and was even originally named the Rivetto Empire), but I thought Spanish would fit better when associating them with the Inquisition.
That's all right! I admire how you admire said languages and sounds and it was a pleasure answering your question. If you have any more, don't be shy to ask! By the way, about your story in turn - are the species inspired by real-world cultures or even based on them? I recall how you mentioned a couple of characters with Italian and French names.

Well, err... I don't think I'll be able to afford college after summer classes. I chose them also because they were cheaper than art academy, but much more specialized. I managed to work and save some money to attend them, but if I wanted to go to college I'd need more help and I don't have it now. That's not too bad, actually... art academies are often a way to spend time without working rally hard. At least this is how it works here (just saying, I visited an art academy today).
I think I'll try my best to update my portfolio as often as I can and work on illustration commissions and private art lessons for children, as I'm trying to do now.
Ah-ah, so my ear is not that bad... of course name meanings are something very personal (and I love to discover their story) and I was surprised by the number of latin-sounding words in your story.
Ouuu, so the Empire started as an Italian-inspired one... too bad it's more spaniysh now but I see the association with Inquisition and Inquisitors, and you probably did a good thing. There are way too many fictional empires based on Renaissance-Catholic Italy.
Curiously, I have contrastant feelings about inquisitors due to a very deep dream I had some years ago, but this is another story.
About me, I often make my favourite characters "close to me" somehow. This means that, for example, munchkins live in a totally renaissance-italian-looking society in which cities and lands are mostly ruled by their rich noblemen, featuring things such as ingenious technology vs medieval traditions, fear for social questions, parochialism and so on. The almost-protagonist of the story is called Stilo Calgiolo as you know, and lives in a little city full of red brick houses and swallows.
This is how I liked to think about Italy when I was younger.
On the other hand, we have characters such as Elio, who lives in a city called Dandara, which is basically Venice's creepy twin. I have a special love for Venice, and I tried to make Dandarian dialect like a mixture of French cadence and Venetian sounds. After all, venetian is my family's language, and don't wonder if I love Elio with all my soul.
About French, it's because I wanted to make my Continent's most "important" people (the Emeraldines, who are basically "humans") look a little like XVIII's century's enlightened frenchmen. This doesn't mean they all look like those fancy wigged noblemen, but that their attitude could resemble them. They have mostly gentle french-sounding names, their policy is to be polite, reasonable and sarchastic (at least in the surface) and they are truly the best dressed and the most foul-scented of all peoples. Ugh, those humans. Totally the worst.
The reason behind Dandarian language being breeded with French is simple. Since Dandara has been built from Emeraldine criminals and exiles at the origin (whose language, the Emeraldine, has very french-sounding words) they melted with native desert people (desert dandarians) and originated the well-known and feared Dandarian race and language. A criminal origin for the scum of earth and my most beloved masked hero.
However, the official language of the Continent is the Medium Universal. Theoretically, this language is High Minchkin language. Actually, it's the language in which is written the story and that the characters mostly speak: If i write here it's English; in my bigger written chapters, it's Italian.
I hope it was a good explaination. Maybe I missed something or I wasn't totally clear. If this happens, I bow my head and ask for mercy.

Thank you for the watch, Tevarro - not for myself, but for giving me a chance to see your gallery! : 3 What a beautifully gritty, gloomish atmosphere your pieces sometimes take. : } It's really very refreshing to see something different like this.
