# About me

I grew up in a southern Texas (super conservative and traditional) community that typically valued athletics over the arts. Being the more creative type, and far from athletic, I was naturally picked on from time to time, but always snapped back with wit. Eventually, due to a scheduling issue, I ended up in a Painting class. I'd never touched a paintbrush aside from Kindergarden watercolors for mother's day! In spite of what I saw as technical flaws, my art teacher (an ex-Disney artist and architect... who CHOSE to move to this place!) encouraged me, always said that I showed a lot of potential and promise as an art student.
He worked with me a lot, teaching me different styles of painting, knowing that I was at least serious about learning, and that I was determined to prove myself (I had come into the class after it was halfway through). After having a 2nd Place ribbon with my name on it handed to me at an Art Show, I kept thinking how much I enjoyed finally getting respect in the community.
Then my history teacher (also an art lover) took a group of kids to Europe. Knowing that I liked art, she walked me through a lot of museums (the Louvre, the Venice Museum of Art, a few others), and was very proud when I could name the paintings that she had taught us about in class. We also broke from a tour group at Versailles to take a picture of a doorknob (the work on it was AMAZING). That trip was really what pushed me to take the arts seriously as a career choice.
The next year at school, I accepted my art teacher's invitation to his advanced art curriculum--where I did everything from assemblage, ceramics, carvings, sculptures, paintings... Everything but metalwork, really! He was very proud of my pieces, and I attained another 2nd place ribbon (for a ceramic piece, this time!) at the year's art show.
Then I moved on! I graduated early after numerous escapades as Vice President of my school's Art Club, and moved to Pennsylvania, where I now study Graphic Design and Fine Arts.
My high school art teacher still takes interest in me, and invited me to be a featured artist at his art show with three pieces--two graphic design pieces, and one painting.
My history teacher and I remain close (you grow attached to maternal figures that take you to Europe for two weeks!) and hit up midnight premieres of movies! She always asks my opinion on the cinematography and the opening/ending title sequences. :)

Expect to see me competing in Design Challenges, mostly. Maybe a few other contests. My paintings are usually very personal, as well as open for discussion on symbolism. I try to keep my paintings chock full of multiple symbols, so that others can relate to them as they see them, too.
