any advice for drawing comics

Well, like any artistic medium, you've just got to keep in mind the unique aspects of the medium.
In the case of comics, that is the panels! So panel layout is very important.
Just try to think of the way people's eyes "flow" across the page (if you read comics, have a look at some of your favourites and notice how your eyes travel from panel to panel, and text bubble to text bubble)
A good comic page flows smoothly.
It's also a good idea to maintain a reasonable number of panels, personally I think the fewer the better per page, but the consensus in the industry seems to be around 5-9 or so (splash panels obviously being the exception) Just put as much on each page as you feel comfortable with, though make sure to leave room for the text!
As for writing, keep in mind that it's not a novel, so try to keep dialogue to a minimum. I try to think of it like a movie in that regard.
Most importantly, just have fun with it! If you have a story that you want to draw, just draw it! Like all art, it's ok to make mistakes (as long as you learn from them
