I'm looking for connections.
I'ts all a part of my personal effort to understand art, illustration, cartooning, the creative industry and personality. For example, some people will list Hellboy as an influence and others will list Mike Mignola as an influence-- both will have an image of Hellboy or some other piece of Mike Mignola's artwork displayed. These people may be different from the person who lists Mike Mignola as an influence and have an image of Mike himself in the display area. Some people enjoy his style, some enjoy the character, some enjoy what the creator has accomplished professionally, some enjoy all the above.
If the personal also list's Dave Sim and/or Jeff Smith in the influences, then I look at the dynamic of creator ownership as an important factor in terms of how a particular person is influenced.
Basically, we are not only influenced by the artists style, but also by what they've accomplished, how they are perceived within there chosen field and how we perceive ourselves and what we aspire to or identify with as it relates to our own creative aspirations.
Of course there are several other factors and subsets of factors as well.

Actually, yes, I do like the creator ownership aspect of those artists, although I'm only aware of Dave Sim and Bill Watterson's struggles in that arena. I stand by both of them in their decisions, even though I haven't railed against the industry the way they have in their own ways.
Art style is one aspect. I credit Wallace and Grommit not for stylistic influence (I have no desire to ape that method of character illustration) as much as tone and attitude about the world and characters created.
Thanks again, nice to know from what angle you're approaching things

You're too kind. May I ask, do you watch Game of Thrones exclusively or do you also read the book? Last nights episode was good, it set up a lot of very intense scenes to come in next weeks episode.

I've read the first two books only... but I just can't wait to have the opportunity to read them all cause I'm too busy at the university =[ so I've decided to watch it too, yeah : D I just watched episode 3 of season 3 and it was... o-m-g... I didn't expect that little thing that happened to Jaime.. I was totally shocked xD I guess with the last episode you're referring to the seventh one? or eighth? I'll soon be there

After Jaime had his hand cut off, I was really shocked, too! I hadn't read that far into the books and it took me by complete surprise. I really felt sorry for him (although he deserves it because he tried to kill Bran).I would say that was the best episode this far of the season, but I saw an interview with George R.R. Martin where he says that episode nine will be really compelling as well.
Anyway, I'm sort of sad that I'm already on Dance with Dragons because I know it will be years before another book is complete. Dammit, George!
I have the audio books (in english) if you'd like them. It's really nice to sit and do art while listening to these books. But I can't listen while I'm working on anything technical. *lol*

haha that would be nice, thank you!
when will the sixth book be released?

TonyDennison In reply to Yellowtwist [2013-05-22 23:24:49 +0000 UTC]
Heaven knows when that sixth book will come out! *lol* It takes Martin quite some time to put out new material and I suspect that there will be problems in about a year when the currently published material has been exhausted in the HBO series.
Perhaps the HBO team will create completely original episodes based on the existing material? Anyway, I'm sure they'll work something out. The Producers said on a Comicon panel that a delay of the HBO series for months or years is out of the question.
Here's a link to the audio narrative of the third books. [link] Let me know if you want the other four?
ciao
