I use photoshop. I just manually extend the canvas size first with white and then again with black. How much white and black I add as a border depends on the size of the image.
You can download frame filters for photoshop that will do it for you.

Thanks
I can't believe you're not in to racing. The UK is the best for that, especially vintage racing !

Alloooo
Thanks for the kind words.
As you could probably see, what I don't have a lot of in my gallery is portraiture. That's something I'd like to remedy.
What are you working on now? Do you have something new you'd like to showcase?

Super! Right now I'm mostly working on getting stuff done for the Steampunk Science Fair on June 12th. After that we'll see... I have that new victorian dress I haven't photographed all that much. That might be fun.... I need a row boat... and a handsome rower to have a skinny mustache, mutton chops and row me around while being photographed. LOLZ

Hmmmmm, where to find a row boat in Ottawa 👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Maybe we'll need to find period life vests?
Idzit In reply to TooStonedToBobsled [2010-06-09 17:04:35 +0000 UTC]
I'm sure I can find the costumes/rower... I just need to find a "chaloupe". They haven't changed much in the last couple hundred years, so it shouldn't be too hard! I'll ask around.
Life vests?! how anachronistic! I'm not partial to wearing air-filled animal bladders... and cork vests from 1854 might be hard to come by.
From Wikipedia:
"The 'Mae West' was a common nickname for the first inflatable life preserver, which was invented in 1928 by Peter Markus (1885-1974) (US Patent 1694714) with his subsequent improvements in 1930 and 1931. The nickname was originated due to the fact that someone wearing the inflated life preserver often appeared to be as physically-endowed as the actress Mae West. It was popular during the Second World War with U.S. Air Force and Royal Air Force servicemen who were issued inflatable Mae Wests. hurr hurrrrrr

OK, I'm not too proud to admit I had to look up anachronistic. That being said, you're quite right.
I brought up the life vests because I pictured some OPP boat cruising up and issuing a $162.50 fine for not having proper safety gear, haha
Mae West, she was one sexy dame, hehe

Also, I think you should start an 'Odd Pub' collection of photos. You've come across so many interesting looking pubs.
