I think my school was the pits really for art teaching (or any other)- we covered non of the mediums - not much at all - we had poster paints - I think that was the best they could do just after the war - maybe that was why - I failed my 11+ so it was a bit of a non entity and my education suffered a lot because of that.
I was expected to pass but if truth were known I really didnt want to pass and go to - I had gone through a lot of trauma as a child having lost my sister and my Dad and I really wanted to stay at the safe little school acorss the road x

LOL! Well I only just scraped through my 11+ (I was immersed in family problems once again, and also simply not an academic). Yes, before Grammar and Boarding Schools, we had poster paints too. I thought they were great fun!! But we did go onto other stuff, esp. at the boarding school I went to, which is where I got on so well with the art teacher as well!

Was boarding scooh a good experience Anna - I was such an insecure child that I couldnt have coped with it - but for some it sounds wonderful - I did what you said in the note about the stock x

I hated every minute of it, and yet when I look back now, I realise I did in fact enjoy a lot of it! Weird! I was too unhappy a child to be happy anywhere at that time. My father's third marriage had just broken up, I was chucked off to boarding school and spent holidays with reluctant relatives who would put up with me. The great things about the school were, however, being by the sea (Frinton on Sea in Essex); having a wonderful Christian Head Mistress who truly cared and gave me wonderful and unique opportunities both with my art and with my music (which was my first love and which I was also best at); Sunday afternoons having tea at her house once we were 6th formers, and being allowed 45 mins of TV!!!! Also the walks along the beach and on the promenade (depending on the tides etc.) were always a huge source of enjoyment for me - I felt free and these were also highly spiritual moments for me. Believe it or not, we also spent Sundays in and out of Church! I enjoyed this, because I was very drawn spiritually, and had already had several amazing spiritual experiences which I believe carried me through those years in any case.

I think as it turns out, it was the best bit of solid grounding I could have had, even though I was always in trouble, and was often grossly misunderstood by other kids there - and teachers too! I had three teachers whom I considered myself to be close to, one being the Head, one being my art teacher and the other being my RE teacher.

You had a very mixed experience obviously - I dont think I could have coped with it - I was too dependent on my mother after my Dad died and even used to go into a panic attack if she went to the corner shop - I must have taken some cping with really! I didnt understand a lot of what went on in that period at all.
My real spirtiual growth started in my early 40's - and I am so grateful for the way this has changed my way of thinking and therefore the life that I lead today.

Awww.. Well the person I had previously put my security in was my grandmother on my father's side - she brought me up, but she died when I was 11 years old. Shortly after that I had my first encounter with God. Not long after that I was packed off to boarding school.

I think my inability to cope has been general throughout my life. I have never coped with any form of rejection, or with criticism. It's always been hard for me like that. I didn't cope well with too much stress, and now I can't cope with stress at all! These things always take their toll on us in the end, but it's good to have our Faith!

Absolutely - stress I cannot deal with - I try to keep as peaceful as possible - it makes me feel ill really if I get stressed.
I have been a very dependent person all my life - today my dependency is in the right place and I have my faith and that makes me strong enough to cope with a lot more - I love my life today and the way it is apart from my health at times
