I had a fantastic art teacher in high school that taught me all the foundational stuff. I was fortunate enough to manage at least one year of art school where I learned it was ok to work from my imagination (Previously I was in the school of thought to ONLY work from life. Life Drawing, still lives, landscapes, ect.). The rest is all self taught, specifically the vector (comic type illustrations) pieces.

If I may humbly suggest....a great book to check out: Drawing on the Right Side of The Brain by Betty Edwards. It's a classic. And great for learning the basics, and how to "see".
