Do you have a social worker or counselor you can talk to? Possibly meds might help (either short term or long term use) but it's a huge decision because they have tons of side effects...it can be hard to know if the problem is more a lack of serotonin then post traumatic stress from verbal or physical abuse. I think Therapy is better for post trauma stress and the usual life problems. Sometimes reading self help books is enough.
You're not alone; I often see distressed journal posts when I thank people for favs and watching. It takes 3 different psychiatric drugs to get my brain work and luckily they allow me to live a normal life and have hobbies like my DA art work. I hallucinate all the time even with meds.
