Astonishing work!

I'm a beginner at silver art clay and I'm curious about it! I got some, but I dont know how to handle it.. being sticky when wet and frail when dried.. do you carve gears and details when the clay is wet, or do you work with them while dried?

Trying to wrap my head around this beautiful enigma and very grateful for some hints.

Thank you kindly

/

WearableByDesign In reply to WeirdWondrous [2010-10-20 13:04:14 +0000 UTC]

There's a real learning curve when handling the clay. I generally press it into a mold when it's fresh out of the package and then let it dry before refining it by sanding, drilling, etc. So most of the work I do is in the dry state. I've gotten used to how much pressure I can put on a dried piece of clay before it breaks. Now it's easy for me.

So don't be afraid to try lots of things. You'll get used to it's properties in no time!

Amazing work...

I hope you don't mind if I ask a quick question.
What conditions do you use to photograph your jewellery? The relatively matt backdrop really makes the silver stand out crisply.

Do you use external flash, lamps or studio lights? This info would be really appreciated, to help me with my own projects.

Thank-you. I actually do both natural light and a light box. It depends on the weather. I set them on a sheet of scrapbook paper.

Exceedingly cool stuff, especially the gear jewelry (but that's just my geekiness talking). Pink Ophelia was really impressive, too.

I wish I could make stuff like that. I can design, but I don't have the know-how or the equipment for such stuff...You have my respect. *bows*

Thanks! I think I have a dual personality because I love making the pretty feminine things, but then I have to take a break and make something that's a bit more geeky or I get a pretty overload. I really love the machine, gear stuff!

Well, I imagine that pretty stuff is just plain fun to make. But machine gear stuff is so hardcore XD

Totally in love with Pink Ophelia, especially your attention to the BACK section. Too many jewelers treat the hook connection as a bare utility.

This? This'n is gorgeous!
