Just requires some practice. If you want to browse certain drawings use the search bar between deviantart and shop on the top left of the page.
If you want to see some random art click the browse button on the front page and refresh it every now and then. You could also scroll through the other links on the front page. 
Also this site is usually always confusing since they like to update it constantly. Site changes are a regular occurrence here but you'll get used to it.

Uh, sure... This doesn't mean free art though. Close friends get that. If you want to make more friends there's chat rooms here. They're always lively and a lot of people are nice.

That's easy, in the top right hand corner you should see your icon. Click that, then in the same corner on your profile page. Click the little gear and click change profile pictures.
