it's hard to explain because not all birds smell the same at least for me, poultry like chickens, quails and ducks, for me smell kinda sweet and acid sometimes, my rooster called papi sometimes smells like strawberries and i don't know why, while my budgies, cockatiels, lovebirds and other small birds have some kind of a dusty smell, like almonds sometimes, peanuts or cold popcorn lol, it sounds weird i know but those are smells you don't quite understand until you own a bird yourself and give it a sniff ahahaha ♥

Lol, I wasn't even too sure if you were serious about being a "pro birb sniffer"

Those are some interesting scents, the birds that smell dusty may have taken dust baths to preen themselves

Do you preen your birds? And if so, how do you do it?

(Sorry if I'm being a little too invasive lol)

actually the ones that take the dust bath are the poultry ones excluding the duck that bathes in water, the smaller ones smell like dust because that's something their feathers produce to keep their skin protected from parasites, while poultry needs to bathe in dirt to help them remove excess oil that can cause parasites, here you can see the dust i talk about in small birds this case a cockatiel ♥  www.youtube.com/watch?v=zvsdqR…

to my birds in general i just scratch them with my fingers to help them cleam their feathers and new feathers that are comming out, but to those that need dirt i provide them with a small bathtub that i fill with dirt so that they can do it by themselfs and give small water containers to those that need to take a water bath a few times on the week, they clean themselfs, i just check them and clean their spaces ♥

i love talking about birds so don't worry, but i'm not an expert, i know what i know from experience

Also another question, why exactly do birds molt? Is it a bad thing or a good thing? Do they do it during "puberty"?

molting is completly normal, is something that happens to birds to shed old feathers or damaged ones, it also happens when a bird becomes adult, changing their juvenile feathers to their adult ones, it is usually a thing that happens over time, like, the bird won't suddenly molt the feathers one day to the other, it goes bit by bit, it can take weeks or months, so that the bird won't have their hability to fly affectted, some birds also grow a more attractive plumage when their mating season comes ♥

to tell the truth i don't understand the question sorry,
i mean cuz my process is like one of many others,
base colors, shadow positions, deciding on colors goes depending on the character palettes or the ilumination so idk :c
