Thank you so much! I have an old walkthrough here [link] that might help, but I made that before I had a tablet so it's good to supplement that with mane & tail drawing and eye-drawing tutorials.
Mostly it just comes down to lots of fiddling to make things fit together. I have no natural artistic talent, but I've learned to notice colours and tones enough to help me make a horse match its surroundings. It takes me forever to finish anything, because things like detail drawing really don't come easily to me.
It's lovely people like you who take the time to comment that keep me going. Otherwise the frustration of not being able to live up to my own standards and the resulting insecurity might take the fun out of it for me. I love the feeling of finishing something and seeing people's reactions to it, but it seems the more I learn the more I push myself, and then I get intimidated by the amount of work ahead of me.
But don't despair! My earlier work wasn't nearly so time-consuming, especially before I had a drawing tablet. Having a good eye for choosing stock that will work well together (in angle and lighting) will save you a lot of trouble. Get some experience before you charge into difficult tasks like water pieces, coat recolouring, and repositioning.
