Hey there! And no, you're not being random at all, I'd love to help!~ The major convention I'd totally suggest to go to Louisiana-wise would be Mechacon. It's in July and it's going to a new location in New Orleans this year! It should be really exciting (I'm looking so forward to it >3
Personally, I would not suggest LouisiANIME. Nearly all of my friends who went last year (its first year) did not have a good time. Also they're still having trouble trying to secure a solid date for this year, so I'd mainly plan for Mechacon.

Louisiana really doesn't have that many anime conventions, but there is a tiny sci-fi one called Babel-con. I've never been to it, but I've heard good things of it.

D and I occasionally try to make little events every so often, so most definitely keep in touch so once you move over here we can send you an invite!
