I'm well! How about you?

I can relate haha. I have zero time for anything lately, it sucks :/
I am also well. Just haven't been as active in terms of art so I'm really sorry for not being able to chat as much. Hopefully I can make up for it when I get more time on my hands!

Uni, of course. I have three essays coming up soon, as well as a scientific report and this other assignment I'm half way from finishing. So yeeah it's pretty full on. I'd be lucky to fit in a bit of drawing but never digital since it takes me hours to finish one piece.
Do you use deviantart much anymore? Or have you moved onto something else? I've made an Instagram for my art but literally only posted one thing because as you know, time is my enemy here.

oh yikes that sounds like a lot, good luck with that. What're you studying again?
I don't use dA much anymore but I haven't moved onto anything else either, I'm trying to use it a bit more again though
I was thinking of making an instagram for my art but i don't it "suits" instagram, that probs doesnt make sense lmao

Yep, not looking forward to it. I'm studying animal and vet. I believe it was either that or something drawing related. I knew I wasn't good enough to go anywhere with that but I'm still doing what I can to improve because it's one of things I enjoy the most. Maybe some day along the road I can have it as a side job of sorts. I think it's better if it's just a hobby for now.
That's good to hear that you're starting to use dA again. I mean I'm not much better off and I was kind of thinking of quitting it at some point but that might not happen for a while. Glad to see you again though!
I also know what you mean about Insta. I mostly do fan art from my favourite fandoms and I think it works for that.
I also considered Tumblr but I don't like it that much so I'd rather stay away from it hahaha

oh that's cool, sounds difficult though, how long have you been studying it for?
I'm in the same boat where I'm not good enough to go anywhere with my art haha,, I'd really like to improve it though and would like to make even a little money off commissions or something later (although I've never been good with commissions lmao)
I think I did basically quit it for almost a year haha but procrastination has brought me back.
Yeah that sounds like it works, if I started an instagram art account I'd want it to be for traditional art? idk, I want to get into water colours and stuff but like, I'm so not patient enough xD
I've considered tumblr too but again I worry that my art doesn't really suit the platform

Kawaiipiika In reply to bl00ka [2018-08-17 04:41:01 +0000 UTC]

This would be my first year so yeah very full on.
We'll both get there eventually! I never want to give up even though it can be frustrating sometimes. Always bounce back somehow. Commissions sound good but I'm also really bad at those, inspiration only goes so far for me haha.
I can totally relate to the procrastination part xD. I'm doing it now just replying to you. I have so much stuff to get out of the way.
Yeah! I absolutely love traditional art and I've been doing that more lately. I'm aiming to finish a sketch book and its tons of fun, especially doing gesture drawings and stuff like that. I have a set of water colours I bought last year that have been sitting around so I really want to start using them. I have a book that teaches you techniques but it's a shame I haven't gotten around to it ): They're my favourite medium to use and look at because they're so pretty. As for patience, well that's another issue entirely haha.
I think Tumblr would suit your art! Either way, whatever you choose will be absolutely fine, I'm sure.

oh that would be very full on haha, i hope it's going well though
yeah, i can be very impatient sometimes but I think I'll always come back to drawing.
Yeah haha I'm the same with the inspiration thing, i can barely muster enough to draw my own thing let alone commissions haha
I do some traditional art sometimes but what i do changes often, at the moment I'm trying to that like, pretty writing stuff lmao
I also got a set of watercolours, I've used them a bit but not a lot, they're probably my favourite medium to, other people use them so well! I would love to get copics (well, cheap alternatives) but Im not sure if I'd actually use them.
Aw thanks haha

Kawaiipiika In reply to bl00ka [2018-08-19 02:40:53 +0000 UTC]

I'll manage, hopefully xD
Yeah, especially when I feel deprived of it. I can never leave drawing for too long unless circumstances call for it and haven't got much of a choice. Ah well.
That's why commissions will always be on the back burner for me. Until I can build up some confidence and inspiration.
Yeah my friend likes doing those water colour hand written thingies. They really are pretty. Me personally, I would just use them for colouring but I'm open to that sort of thing. I did get these pens similar to the pentel aqua wash brush because I saw this youtuber JelArts use them and they are amazing. Definitely have to try it one day. On a slightly unrelated note, I love watching youtubers and their processes, it so much fun.
Copics! Oh my lord, I have no idea what I'd do with those. I mean they are super cool but gosh dang it they are so expensive. There are so many colours that I couldn't begin to understand what ones go with what. I would like to use them one day but I don't have the budget for it right now hahah I already made the mistake of buying a few a long time ago that do not go well together and so I never used them again. In terms of budget though, I hear ciaos are good, same company and everything.

ah yeah I'm the same, if i want to finish a drawing it has to be all in one go, and that takes a while.
I use them more for colouring and save the more word arty stuff just for regular pens and stuff. Tbh I think my love for art shows itself more in my school notes than anything else these days haha, I spend too much time on making them look pretty.
Oh that's cool, I've heard of those. I agree with you on that. Watching the process of art is so cool, but I also love stuff like sketchbook tours haha.
They are expensive lmao, I could probably afford them but it wouldnt be a very smart purchase because I definitely wouldn't be using them enough to make up for it. There are a few colours that I know I want but I feel like I need to improve my art before actually getting them in order to be like,, idk, yknow, maybe, haha
Im probably going to look for a cheaper alternative that isn't from the same brand. Ciaos are cheaper but they're still expensive lmao, plus there's less of a range and all that. Although Im not sure where i'd get them

Usually I'm able to come back to a piece. I sometimes get these moments where I draw decently enough and then other times its absolutely crap. When I'm in the zone though I get afraid that it won't be the same when I return to it so I try to finish it then and there.
Yeah, it never hurts to try word art though (flash back to word 2007). And yeah true! I used to do that in high school especially in my art classes because we did a lot of theory and it could be boring sometimes. I do it still but not as much.
I always find art videos to be relaxing so I do that in my spare time too. Sketch book stuff is always fun haha.
I get where your coming from with not getting expensive art until you get better. My friend says that a lot but I think it will really help to get a feel of what they're like, no matter what skill level you're at.
That's a good idea anyway at least you'll be working your way up.
That less of a range thing is the same for windsor and newton watercolours. The cotman range is pretty much student grade and has less pigment and can look chalky which is just sad. I have those but haven't used them enough to really have an opinion but I have experienced the chalky look.

That's good that you can come back to a piece, I usually get stumped whenever I try to do that. Haha I'm the same with that, I've found recently that drawing is a lot like trying to get a pair of broken earphones in place where you have to wiggle them a bunch and for ages until it fINALLY works.
yeah true (haha man I loved the word art in word sO much as a kid). I did it a bunch leading up to the final school exams because it was a lot of revision and it helped me memorise stuff. I'm finding it harder now to make time for pretty notes though.
Yeah that's true, I ended up getting a bunch of cheap not-copics for christmas and I've enjoyed them so far. I don't use them very often though so I'm happy to have just gone with some cheaper ones, although I'd love to get some actual ones in my favourite colors.
I haven't enough of a range of watercolours to be able to compare the ones I use, or even say whether they're good or not (i just know they;re better than those ones that come in like, a layer of three circles haha). I need to use my watercolours more often, along with all my other art stuff haha
also sUPER sorry for the late reply lmao, I procrastinate way too much

It's a sometimes for me really. But I have been doing it more nowadays because I don't have as much time and so I just come back to it later. Great analogy there haha!
Same I would decorate my assignments with them all the time. XD Oh really? For me it was out of boredom but for that to actually help you is amazing! I have trouble getting information to stick.
Oh nice, it's good to know that there are cheaper alternatives. Copics are ridiculously priced.
I've got most of the colours from the cotman range for watercolours now and honestly you don't even need that many. There aren't as many colours from that range that are pigmented enough though. Ultramarine blue is probably the best from my experience.
I need practice with inks, I seriously suck at them hahaha.
Oh no don't even worry! That's pretty much me as well.
