I HAVE NO IDEA.
SERIOUSLY.
It's like, I get on here, leave some comments, mess around..
....aaand then suddenly it's five months later before I check back in. I DON'T KNOW WHY. I'm always meaning to check it every day. I'll even get on here, browse for a bit, and just not leave any comments.
You want to know something stupid that you probably don't need to hear?
I felt more useful and fulfilled drawing really bad webcomics back in high school than I have my entire college career. I wish I had never became an English major. I could whine more but I think that's enough!

I don't know. I don't want to be one of those guys that whines about all their regrets, but when I think back on the last five years, all I can think of is "what the hell was the point?" I wouldn't be exagerating if I said I spent most of that time just twiddling my thumbs; spending hours on friggin' wikipedia or whatever. I'm not really sure I've learned much at Miami University anyways.
BUT WHAT AM I SAYING! TELL ME HOW YOU ARRRRRGH! (I uh.. didn't find that pun funny either, but I feel like being a dork).

HI.
IT'S BEEN MONTHS.
I SWEAR I'M NOT IGNORING YOU, I'M JUST REALLY LAZY.
Siigh. I think it's because there are just some days (/weeks/months) I just don't think about Deviant Art. I go to school all week, spend most weekends completely away from the internet, and just don't think to check more than Twitter and blogs when I finally have time to mess around. I think that needs to change. I miss doing artwork, and really.. well, this site helps a lot.

I know what you mean... I haven't logged on in a month or two, either! I've been so busy looking for a job that I haven't had time to think about artistic endeavors (or social ones, for that matter).
Either way, you need to stop apologizing! I know that life kinda gets in the way of things like DA. So don't worry about it!
Speaking of school, are you going for the summer semester?

Yeah! Who knew adulthood was so crazy?!
Well, I was signed up to take two classes (Zoology and Musical Theatre) but I decided to drop them. Instead, I want to use this time to train myself a bit more in drawing, animation, and film. I know, I'm corny. But this is really what I want to do with my life. Really, I should be applying to an art school so I can focus on this stuff. Oh well... How have you been?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Lady-Tsuru In reply to blackbeardpirate [2012-05-24 22:02:21 +0000 UTC]
That's not corny at all! If it's your passion, then go for it! In this economy, you're probably as likely to find a job in the field you want as you are to find one in a field that's supposed to be "booming" right now... Have you considered building your resume by doing freelance writing or photography? There are websites that pay you to do stuff like that, and that'll get your foot in the door of the industry.
Not that I have any room to give advice! I'm mired in job hunting now, and let me tell you, I'm kinda pissed. I graduated, got my certificate, and am now qualified to be a medical transcriptionist. The catch? Companies only hire people with two or more years of experience. How the heck are we supposed to GET experience if you have to BE experienced to get hired anywhere?
I guess this is adulthood, and like you said, it's crazy... Oh, well, at least I have Skyrim to take my mind off of it. Didn't you say you got that game for Christmas? I finally obtained a copy, and my PS3 doesn't know what it's like to play any other game. XD

Glad you had a good holiday! Mine was awesome! I got a gift card to a clothing store, and a netbook case, and some odds and ends of stuff--mainly coins for my collection. The best part about this year was that I did the stockings for my parents! Dad has one that's three feet long, and we filled that thing up to the top! XD He was really surprised about that.
So how much coal did you get in your stocking? Seriously, did you have a good time? I hope so!

That sounds so cool! I've never seen a three foot stocking! I got um.. video games! and a slinky. I'm easy to please, I guess.
Thanks to a couple friends of mine, I had TWO pieces of coal! ...One was actually gum. So it's edible. But it looks like poo. So uh.. maybe not.

Ah, I know the feeling! Sometimes I don't even log in because I feel so unproductive. Oh, well, such is life! How are things up there? Down here's pretty much the same... The main topic of conversation is the weather. I actually just offended someone on the aquarium forum. She's from Canada, and somebody cracked a Canadian joke. She said it didn't bother her, and I said that I actually want to move to Canada because of the weather. She thought I was sucking up to her and being hyper-sensitive and uber politically correct!

I'm doing pretty good; starting my last semester of school this spring. This semester went by too quickly... How about you?

Haha, that's true!
Man, I still have two more semesters to go! Well, maybe.. I'm really unsure about the creative writing major. I don't think I'm going to be a novelist anymore, and I'd like to go into comics and animation. I thought about starting over at an art school, but I'm so close to graduating. Maybe I'll go to graduate school in film? Oh well!
It was kind of quick! The driving between campuses was tedious (I had classes in three locations throughout the county!) but it seems like the past three months have flown by. How have you been?!

Lady-Tsuru In reply to blackbeardpirate [2011-12-20 03:37:55 +0000 UTC]
Go for the creative writing major! If you're so close to graduating, then you may as well follow through with it. Besides, you never know where it'll lead you.
I understand the driving thing; I live fifty miles from my campus.
Let's see... Well, I had to get rid of my fish tanks a month or so ago. The water in this town is so bad, it can't support life. Seriously... After that, I got a conure (I know, I know, too many pets...). I've been dividing my time between training him and doing my school work. I'm about to go into my internship either this semester or the summer semester. Though my counselor said that I should try to find one on my own... The thing is, if I could find a job in a medical office, I wouldn't need to go to school, would I? XD
I think I know what I'm going to do after I build up my career in medical transcription, though... Due to a scheduling conflict, I had to enroll in a cultural anthropology class this past semester. I found out that I really, really love it! I think that in another five years, I'm going to get a bachelor's in cultural anthropology and become a full-time anthropologist... I'm still not sure, though. That's too far into the future; hell, next week is too far in the future for me to think about!
Speaking of the future, I can't believe that it's almost Christmas! What are your plans, if you don't mind me asking?

I suck at replying. -_-
Aww! Poor fishes. Whew, its good you found an internship though! I've had trouble really finding any at all. Mostly because my area isn't exactly hip to publishing houses or anything an English major really exactly dreams of doing out of college.
COOL! I actually started here at Miami as an Anthropology major! And specifically, I wanted to go into Cultural Anthropology. Aaand then I became an English major. So what culture do you think you'd like to study? If any in particular, that is?
Just visiting some family members! Nothing greatly special. ...Aaaand there were many video games played! Haha. How about you?!

Lady-Tsuru In reply to blackbeardpirate [2011-12-27 06:12:54 +0000 UTC]
You jump around a lot, don't you? It's good to have a wide variety of interests, though. That's too bad about the difficult job hunt... Maybe you could find something in publishing? Something like that could tide you over until you break into a job you really want. And it might be fun, too.
Miami??? I thought you lived in Ohio?
I don't think I really want to study one culture in particular. I'm more interested in similarities/differences between them. Specifically, I LOVE linguistics! I also kinda like teaching (I was a teacher's aide right after high school). Maybe I could just be a college teacher on the subject?
Sweet! Your family plays games, too? That's what we did last night; my cousin got an X-Box Kinect, and we all played Fruit Ninja. THAT was something to see... Especially my mom and aunt trying to figure out how to do it! That was the third of four gatherings we had... Let's see... The 23rd we had dinner at our house, the 24th we had a little gathering of my parents' friends, yesterday we all got together at my cousins', and I just got home from my aunt's house and yet another gathering... We've all seen a little too much of each other! XD

blackbeardpirate In reply to Lady-Tsuru [2011-12-28 06:44:51 +0000 UTC]
Not a whole lot, but I have done my share of jumping!
Haha! I get that a lot. Here in the western side Ohio, we have the Miami River, which is what my school is named for. But it's always fun to tell people I go to school at Miami and leave them thinking I mean Florida!
Oh, there's always Linguistic Anthropology too, isn't there? Haha. And you could be a College professor! I hear the academic world is full of drama though. I think I'd go crazy!
I have no idea what Fruit Ninja is! Am I missing out? It sounds awesome! Haha, and that's a lot of gatherings. We just meet up at my uncle's house! I'm kinda jealous!
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Lady-Tsuru In reply to blackbeardpirate [2011-12-29 02:26:11 +0000 UTC]
Oh, so you're not actually some old guy in a retirement home in Florida? XD
Schools are indeed FULL of drama... A lot of my family members were/are teachers, and they told me plenty of horror stories about kids, parents, and the administration. College isn't so bad, though. You're a little more free to teach your own way, plus the students aren't nearly as bad (since the people in class actually WANT to be there!).
Fruit Ninja is probably the most awesome thing ever! At least for the X Box (right now, the most awesome thing in my world is Elder Scroll IV: Oblivion). Basically, you use the Kinect to wave your arms like a drunk ninja monkey to chop at fruit that flies all over the screen. It's pretty fun! We played for a long time and only stopped because of the gift exchange.
Be glad you only had one gathering... My family's fun and all, but when they get together it can be crazy... At any given gathering, there's usually around twenty people there. And all of them have conflicting opinions on everything, and they're all pretty outspoken... And since my aunt and uncle got a HUGE dog a few months ago, the third get-together was "interesting" to say the least! She kept getting in the house and almost knocked my grandma out of her wheelchair. XD

MAYBE I AM! You will never know! AHAHAHAHAHA!
Some of my best friends are college professors, and they have it kind of rough. Still, as much as they complain, they do seem to enjoy the work! I know one guy that works as a professor and also at a book store part time. Go figure! I guess a teacher's salary must really suck after all.
Oh man, how long has it been since we spoke about video games?! I actually never picked up an Elder Scrolls game until Skyrim! I love it though. I'm not really into games that don't have a set ending usually. I like lots of intriguing characters and story to get involved with. Skyrim has a bit of that, but it's more about immersion than actual narrative. Which is fine, awesome game. I might have to play Oblivion, if I ever manage to beat this game!
Your family gatherings sound like they'd give Chevy Chase a run for his money! I'd pay money for a video of a dog leaping at a woman in a wheel chair! ...Er, as awful as that sounds! haha.
I just finished Uncharted 3, the newest (and I presume the last) game in Naughty Dog's latest series. I'm kind of bitter sweet about it. They're a lot of fun, and I like that Naughty Dog basically made platformers cool again by adding guns. But I'd die happy if they'd do something with Crash Bandicoot or Jak.

Lady-Tsuru In reply to blackbeardpirate [2012-01-01 00:45:31 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, a teacher's salary is no fortune!
Gosh, how long HAS it been? It seems like forever! Though this kinda reminds me of that one New Year, when we stayed on DA and chatted until past midnight. I don't remember what year that was, though... 2003? 04?
I'm the same way. I love games with a good story, but the Elder Scroll series has something that makes the immersion/roleplaying part fun. Kinda like The Sims, but with a lot more to do. Oh, how IS Skyrim, anyway? I'm loving Oblivion, but I've been curious about the latest game. There are a lot of people who say it's the best ever, and then some people say it's not as good as previous games. Some people say that Oblivion is the best in the series, but I've never played any other titles.
Hehe, that is pretty awful, but I admit, it's a funny thought! You should see when the dog gets inside the house, though... She always goes straight for the toilet. This dog, by the way, is probably 150 lbs or so. She's about three feet tall, and when she rears up she can place her paws on my shoulders (I'm 5' 9"). And she's only 9 months old... So when she gets it in her mind to do something, it's hard to stop her! I guess it does sort of sound like Christmas Vacation... We even had a run-in with a squirrel a few years ago! Though that was a baby, and it came from my aunt's fireplace... And then the cat chased it down the toilet...
I've sort of gotten away from Naughty Dog games. I loved Jak and Daxter, Jak II was the essence of awesome, and then Jak III came out... It was OK, but after that the series just went downhill. I wish they'd spend more time on the plot and gameplay rather than just churning them out for more money. I've never played Crash Bandicoot, though. Are those games any fun?
Hey, BTW, are you into Ratchet and Clank (it HAS been a while if I can't even remember if you liked that series or not!)? I love that series! I'm thinking about getting the Future trilogy. Have you played any of those?
Wow, that's too many questions for one post... Sorry about that! Anyway, happy New Year! Though if the Mayans have their way, this'll be the LAST year, so I guess happy Last Year?
