Heya, I posted a question on your tutorial "Painting a face" and was hoping you could help me It's about the smudge tool that I can't seem to get the hang of.

I think you need to move to the United States. It's much too hard to stalk you so far away. (I kid, I kid) o_o" I apologize, all I mean to say, and I'm sure you get this a million times a day so I don't expect a reply, just as long as you know that I am so inspired by your work. It's breath-taking and it hurts to look at because I want to be able to do the same but know I do not possess the talent that you have. You don't just create beauty like most, you weave emotions and it's fantastic. You're the only person I'm "watching." Please have a lovely day.

thanks for your kind and humbling words my dear well, i just used to have a lot of passion for drawing and painting so, automatically, i drew and painted a lot. no one needs talent for their passion - if you really want to do it then you will be able to do it. have a lovely day as well!

I've read some of your tutorials and found them very helpful, especially the one on making hair in Photoshop, so thank you! I just have a few questions. First, do you paint and finish the face first before you do the hair, or do you just create put both on seperate layers and jump from one to the other? Also, is the burn tool in Photoshop also an option for shading?

i'm glad they were helpful. however, they are from 2002 and i don't work like this anymore. actually, i barely make digital paintings anymore. but digital or not, i usually work on the face before i do the detail work on the hair because i don't enjoy painting hair that much. but i'm sure there are some pics for which i did the hair at first. i don't have a fix order
i usually have one layer for the foreground and one for the backgroud. i used to work with hundreds of layers when i started to paint in photoshop. later i decided using layers is way too messy and too confusing for my taste. and way too un-traditional. i prefer the traditional way of painting. er, so, the answer to your second question: one. but i might used separate layers when i did the tutorial, i can't remember.
as for your third question: of course it's an option but one doesn't have to use or like it. i don't like it, so i don't use it in my paintings. many other digi-painters i know do. just paint the way you enjoy it best. blah~

Wow, you've got some sick skills, love it and keep it up!
I saw your tutorial page as well and I'm going to try my best to study them and try to apply them. I'm no where near your level, but you have definitely inspired me and provided some excellent tools to aid me in my strive to self improvement and I'm sure you have done the same for many other, thank you so very much!
