I saw someone at our local Renaissance Festival wearing steam punk garb that resembled yours very closely. Have you ever sold/commissioned anything out here in the states?

davevdveer In reply to skydemonx7 [2013-03-05 09:01:40 +0000 UTC]
Nope, i havent. Importing or exporting anything remotely resembling armor and/or weapons is a big nono in the european union
But, i wouldnt be suprised. I got my early inspiration from other steampunks at well. Its part of the growth process i guess.

Hehe, if only I had the money and time! I'd love to make stuff like that

money is rarely an issue. to complete something like this takes about 70 euro's total if you're lucky with what you can find and errr... "borrow". Time however, is another matter altogether.

Hey, I put up a picture of the Hand-Cannon. It's not completely done yet, I have to add a few more things to make it look more...steampunky lol. And sadly, i won't be able to get the LEDs in until April at least due to money issues. But go ahead and tell me what you think of it so far

Looks good! truly a handheld artillery piece i like the stock especially. Now its time for the hardest part: figuring out what fits on it and what doesnt. You might want something to counteract newtons third law of motion for example and itll need some sort of ignition/firing mechanism + trigger. But, its on the right track for sure, keep it up!

skydemonx7 In reply to davevdveer [2011-03-14 00:56:21 +0000 UTC]
Lol thanks I know about the trigger and stuff, that will be coming once I can make a trip to radioshack. But, what do you think may look good on it? I have a set of gauges that i can set on the back of the gun, but nothing for the tubes to connect to, so It kinda looks a little wacky.

davevdveer In reply to skydemonx7 [2011-03-15 13:17:10 +0000 UTC]
some form of steam reservoir might be an idea, something like a brass thermo-bottle. that would give ample of opportunity for more or less logical tubes.

skydemonx7 In reply to davevdveer [2011-03-16 13:52:39 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I was thinking about attaching some kind of power box to my waist and have these gauges with tubes attach the box to the gun. Thanks

Looking for some additional ideas for a Steampunk version of the Piperβs Precision Products M134A2 Vulcan Minigun ([link] ). The company owner said it could be feasible. I also want to attach it to a steadicam rig similar to the second Aliens movie ([link] ) expect it should have steampunk feel to it as well.

davevdveer In reply to PrimalDreams [2010-11-09 14:35:23 +0000 UTC]
well, if you want some ideas, it should have a steam boiler for propulsion purposes, plus the needed gauges to properly monitor pressure, water etc.
would be a great idea to either make it completely industrial, or very ornate. and handles etc should be made out of wood. For the metal sides of that RSG-2 thingy: take a look at old victorian bridges, the support structure in particular. notice the triangular construction. maybe thats an idea for those parts? other then that... lots of brass and copper of course. also, take a really good look at the american civil war gatling guns.
Hope that gives you some ideas
