I have no idea what /btg/ is, sorry. All I can say is that I've done a huge pile of 'Mech icons for MegaMek, and that the MM devs use them as they see fit

Generally I start with a picture of the 'Mech or a miniature of it or whatever other resource I have. Then I try my best to construct a top-down view of it from there.
