Hello, some months ago I sent you a note that was left unanswered ^^ I am co-admin of the Ratha fangroup here on deviantart and was wondering about the absence of Clare Bell and no more updates from the comic project D:

Hey, Zimices.  Thanks for the hello!  Yes, I do need to do some uploading.  I've been wrapped up in some private projects and some technical illustrations (which wouldn't be too interesting out of context).  I hope to do something for here before long, and have time to catch up on everyone else's art, too.

Ooo, the gremlins ate my first reply to you!

I meant to say that I was surprised to find I hadn't been watching you (apparently I hadn't been watching *viergacht either, and we were even working on the project together!). There are a lot of gryphs in your gallery that I hadn't seen before -- very cool! You vary them by species and personality -- makes 'em very interesting. I'm sure I first saw your work while looking at Ratha art, but I love your other art too, especially the paleo! Wonderful paleo!

Thanks for faving my pumpkin tutorial! I thought your gothic raven pumpkin was awesome, so for you to fave my tutorial is a huge compliment to me.

deathmango In reply to CaptainQuirk [2012-11-04 22:28:13 +0000 UTC]

The tutorial is great (I like ones which can anticipate where followers may have difficulty, such as yours does with the contrast settings). It got me thinking: if a user has Photoshop Elements (I think versions 8 and later), there's a "Save for Web" option, in which you can choose to save as, say, a gif with 4 different shades of grey (you can choose the number of colors the file is limited to). I may have to play around with this option, and see if it would make for easy, reproducible results. I've used it to simplify a photo for projection (to draw a large background for a painting). I've never used it for pumpkin designs.

Incidentally, I used Inkscape (a free, open-source vector drawing program) to make my pattern. I wouldn't recommend it for casual designers, though, as I've experience with the program from past projects, and *still* spent an all-nighter trying to draw that silly raven!

CaptainQuirk In reply to deathmango [2012-12-02 23:30:10 +0000 UTC]

That might work. When I first tried to use photoshop to make pumpkin patterns, I tried it with the Mosiac and Paper Cut Out filters to make the different segments. I found that distorted the image too much though, which is why I do it with brightness/contrast now.

Hello, old friend, thank you for finding my page!

You still have amazing artistic talent* of course, and I shall be paroozin' your gallery trying to scratch the surface of all the things that should be favo(u)rite-ed in the coming days!

*: whilst I am still obfuscated beyond reasonable ability to be followed, but I've found in the last 5 years that I like telling stories in doodle-comic format, as it helps ground things.
