Thanks for the watch, good sir. Maille making, you say... interesting. I'm a professional medievalist in one of my other lives. I like your taste in music, for the most part. I can probably think of 50 or so bands you would probably enjoy. If you like The Smiths, try Echo and the Bunnymen, The Teardrop Explodes, Orchestral Manouevres in tyhe Dark. If you like Zappa try Captain Beefheart, Porcupine Tree, Pineapple Thief, Ulver, Gazpacho (the Norwegian band, not the Argentinian one), Mum, Amiina, Sigur Ros, Ayreon, Laibach and more.... one of my other sidelines is somewhat of a musicologist.

I had an inkling that you were either SCA or one of Miss B's friends. If you want some samples of music catch up with me sometime. I have a rather extensive collection (over 10k tracks on my iPod), and get an average of 3-4 cd's a week. Most of my stuff is progressive rock, neo-progressive rock, space prog, prog metal, RiO (Rock in Opposition - Zappa, Beefheart etc), post rock, ambient, electronica, experimetal, and I also have a lot of blues, jazz, world, and mor "mainstream" acts as well.
I've actually been into photography longer than I have been in the SCA... over 25 years. I did a lot of pro work in the 80s and early 90s, and have just really got back into it in the last 2 or so years with a DSLR rig.

i'm not sure if you would know, but if anyone would, you or your SCA mates would, where would be a really great place in victoria to source copper, brass, stainless etc. wire?
and yeah, i will totally have to catch up with you sometime, maybe pay a visit to the workshop. thats in cheltenham isnt it?

The cheapest way is to go to a non-ferrous metal recycler. There's a place in Clayton that sells bras, bronze and copper wire, too. For jewellery stuff you need to go to Australia House in the CBD. For maille making I would go online to the Ring Lord. It's just easier that way.

yeah, i've found out about that place in clayton, just waiting on some correspondance from them. i'd love to go to the ringlord, however, my ordering quantities are hardly big enough to justify the cost, especially now that the aussie dollar is so much lower than it was, and the cheapest postage takes 6-12 weeks *sigh*
i should consider some jewellery stuff, but want to get a more professional set-up first, and a bit more experience with the maille

yeah, likewise. i'm almost regretting quitting my old job, but that was fast food and it was completely shit anyway. they just got a new restaurant manager in, and things are looking like they've improved, but i dont think i could ever make myself work there again
