My theory currently about why I am not as beloved or popular as the average user is that popularity on dA has NOTHING to do with your artistic capabilities.
It's all your personality, username, profile picture ect that makes people want to click on you.Β
You could have works on the same level of Daycolors and still, after 5 years not break 10,000 profile views.
This is supported by users like meatpie, sure he produces art at an impressive rate but it is all quite below average. He gets away with it with his personality, which in my opinion, is quite 'cringe'.
Then you have Emperor-CatVI who aggressively favorites everything in order to get pageviews from people who are thanking him for the favorites. How can I tell? NOTHING in his favorites correlates to any kind of fandom or interest at all. I actually had to block that guy because he got on my nerves too much.
But what about featherblaz? I do recall she was one of my watchers back in 2018 as you can tell by a comment on my page.
My art is objectively superiorΒ to feather's in some areas. Sure, you can make the argument it looks way better due to the vectors but I do have some problems with the style that has developed. The general way the noses are drawn make a character's face have a weird perspective.
Feather's personality is quite familiar to me since I have seen something like it before. I believe that she has this many fans (281) due to it being relatable. I cannot see any other reason.
With such a following that feather has, it's likely that she doesn't get that much criticism at all.
To be fair though, after all her art is actually quite good.
But it's only a theory so what do I know? I've only been on the platform for half of a decade! There was a lot of time to ponder on this. I've come to this conclusion from multiple factors that are not included due to this being already quite the wall of text.
