I am a college graduate with a BFA in graphic design (interactive and illustration) and a Japanese minor, and am working as a web designer & programmer in downtown Philadelphia. I really love doing cosplay, started in 2004. I am pretty stubborn, have high-expectations, dream big, and often over-extend myself.... I'm not quite sure where my life is going, but for now, I'll just be having fun cosplaying... ^_^;# Comments

Um, could you give me some tips for a wig I'm making? See, I'm going to cosplay as a character with lavender hair, but the wig I'm using is Dark purple. I'm wondering how to lighten the color. It's one of those plastic-y, synthetic wigs.

Sorry, I don't check dA often, so I don't know if this is useful anymore... but there's no real way to lighten wig fibers unfortunately. You can take a light wig and dye it darker with inks/etc-- and even that can only work so much. You can't successfully dye a white wig black, for example. At best you'll get gray.
Since it's plastic, you're basically coating it with a thin layer of dye, which will only tint the fibers. To cover it completely opaque, you'd have to paint them, which you can't really do with wig hair.
Anyway, I hope you found a solution for your wig! If you can't find the find color wig, it's best to start with a lighter color and work up from there.

Well, I ended up with the wig as it was, and it wasn't too bad. But from now on, I'm not gonna use any synthetic wigs.

As for the treasure map, I used a styrofoam ball as the base, and cut out lots of little, interlocking pieces of craft foam and glued them on the ball. Then I covered it all in elmer's glue to "seal" it and spray painted with metallic gold paint. It was rather fun to make and I really like how it turned out~

Just a question about your lovely Takato cosplay. (I'm currently working on mine ATM). How did you make the shoes? And what kind of shoes did you base them on?

The base pair of shoes I just found at Walmart. I wanted ones that were kind of "chunky" with thick soles since in Tamers their feet are kind of big and blocky. ^_^ Then I freely added the green fabric to the base of the shoe by draping it over and making a loose pattern and carefully hot-gluing the edges. I made an exaggerated tongue out of two pieces of fabric sewn together with a piece of craft foam in the middle to hold it's shape. (I realize now you can't even see my feet in any of the pics I uploaded on dA?? lol. Unless you saw this one from my friend: [link]
