Your welcome, thanks for the kind words. I thought the class was alright for what it was. I was kind of hoping to take a film photography class, but RCCC doesn't place too much emphasis on arts...I got a good bit of practice out of it, though, so I've no regrets.
So you know Onward to Olympas? Are you familiar with any of the other bands in that crowd (Sever The Tie, People, Deception of a Ghost...)? Do you listen to much Christian hardcore?

I was hoping to take a film class as well. What do you think of lomography?
I'm familiar with each of the bands you mentioned and have seen them play various times. Though I don't know them personally (with OTO being the exception to that). How about your band? I would like to give you guys a listen (or maybe two listens.. you never know .
I do listen to much Christian hardcore. Are you familiar with any bands from that genre? I would assume that isn't up your ally but hey

I don't know anything about lomography, but it definitely looks interesting. I like the idea of quirky, light-hearted photography. The shots on lomography.com are gorgeous...
I play guitar in People ([link] ), although the band has been sort of defunct for 2 years. The group that takes up most of my time is The Farewell Monument ([link] ). We've been working on finishing up our first record, so everything up on Myspace is old demos...
I used to listen to a ton of Christian hardcore. Strongarm, Zao, Beloved, Hopesfall (the original lineup with Doug singing), my friends in Braveyoung play with Advent often (Mike from Advent is currently in a project with a friend of mine called "Low Sky"). I mostly listened to those groups just because they played in the same circles of all the straightedge hardcore I listened to. I'm not personally Christian, but I love all music that has passion, and that's one thing that Christians generally have in spades.
So what are you slumming through RCCC for? Are you transferring next year?

That's awesome. Did you make the "give me a fast ship..." graphic? I like it. From the demos it sounds like it will be a good album.
Those are all great bands you mentioned. I love Beloved, though the only time I got to see them live was at their farewell show. Nevertheless, It was the best show I've been to.. there was so much energy...the crowd must have been 71% mosh pit . I'm also a big Zao fan.. do you still keep up with them? I'm not a huge fan of "The Fear Is What Keeps Us Here" due to the recording quality but the songs are awesome live.
Haha, I kind of like RCCC... It's not particularly challenging but the people are pretty nice. I'll probably transfer to UNCC in the Fall or next Spring. It depends on how many classes I want to take over the Summer. How about you? What are you studying towards a degree in?

Thanks for watching it! I'm very excited for OTO.
Good creedo there I started out working so that I could buy a new camera (and gas for course) and then I got my camera and now I want to buy lenses... it's a vicious cycle. It's nice to be able to help people a little a bit too. Camera stuff and helping people is the silver lining.. the rest sucks.
Thanks for the kind words, I hope that I'll choose to pursue photography even though it might mean that I'll live at home forever... I actually wouldn't mind that though, haha. Theres nothing better than taking pictures on the side of the road in the rain while crazy teenagers roll their windows down and scream at you... I'm not even entirely being sarcastic
Well, I might haggle someone to work for me so I can go because that video was awesome!

Thanks! I actually made the "Give me a fast ship..." graphic with a photo I had taken for ART264. I'll definitely get you a copy of the record when it finally gets finished (eventually...).
Beloved were a great group of guys, I hate that they decided to call it quits at the height of their career. Advent is still great though, and from what I've heard of Josh Moore's solo work, it's not too shabby either. I always loved NC hardcore shows! They were always the most energetic and intense experiences. I remember Prayer for Cleansing's last show with Hopesfall and Undying. There were people climbing up the speaker stacks and doing swan dives into the crowd! I haven't experienced anything like it in a long time! I haven't heard Zao since around 2002. I saw them several times between '97 and then during my hardcore heyday. I read about "The Fear...", it was recorded by one of my favorite producers Steve Albini, and his work tends to sound raw. He also recorded a lot of my favorite Neurosis, Mogwai, and Mono albums.
RCCC is a mixed bag for me. I like that it's a small school, but sometimes the instructors are a little iffy. Like, I had to drop my Physics course this semester because the instructor gave a speech on how he didn't believe in radiocarbon dating, geology, climatology, and how none of that was "real science". I'm going to transfer to UNCC/G next year to study Music Composition. What's your major?
Anywho, if you get bored tonight, there is gonna be an amazing show at Legit Biz in G'boro tonight. ([link] ). My friend's band Low Sky, which has members of Braveyoung and Advent are playing along with Rosetta and City of Ships. Should be amaaaaaazing. On top of that, Legit Biz is like a little hole-in-the-wall warehouse. If you see my live show photos in my gallery you can see what I mean. It's an amazing venue where you are right on top of the band...

Thank you and you're welcome.
After I got off work tonight, I decided to listen to Zao's "The Fear.." album again (it had been a couple years) and I like it. I found the honestly of the minimal post production kind of endearing plus some of it made me want to pee on myself (... I consider that to be a good thing!). I looked up Steve Albini and some of his other recordings and I really liked what I came across. Specifically MONO's "Hymn..."... excellent!
Advent is great, it's been awhile since I've seen them play.. I would like to see them again. They have a lot of energy and I enjoy their album.
How was that show? Sounds and looks like a fun venue. Did you ever go to Ace's Basement in Greensboro? That place was great.. I almost even liked that it was in the basement of a sketchy and leaky motel.
Music Composition, nice.. do you know what you want to do with your degree? I've yet to figure out my major or "career path" but I think I've narrowed it to Information Systems, Photography/Art or Biology. Though by the time I'm done with school I will probably have a degree in something totally different..
I remember having Western Civ II with you my first semester at RCCC... I think the highlight of that class for me was that you wore a blazer with a t-shirt and jeans and then within the next couple of class periods Mr. Barnes came in wearing the same outfit.. it made me laugh.

I find that minimal production lends sincerity to a recording. "Hymn to the immortal wind..." is one of my all time favorites. I saw Mono play in Chapel Hill a few months ago. So, so, so, very amazing. If you want to see Advent play again, there is going to be an absolutely brilliant show on Feb. 15 at Legit Biz ([link] )<--details...
Last night's show was fantastic, as usual. I never got to Ace's Basement, even though I knew a lot of guys who played there. Greensboro is a good place for hole-in-the-wall venues.
I have no clue what I'm going to do with my degree. I was a political science major with law school ambitions, but I decided that I'd rather be happy than be wealthy. At the advisement of my father and many of my older and wiser friends, I changed my major to pursue my passion. I'm hoping to be able to work scoring music for bands and filmmakers. If nothing else, I'll get a PhD and become a professor with crazy hair and I'll wear blazers with t-shirts all the time. Bob Barnes was a trip. Did you know he basically graded everyone based on how much he liked them?

Cool, I might come to that show if I don't have to work. At my job I'm usually the only non-manager who can work on Mondays. I used to go to shows all the time before I got a job... I need to follow the advice of your mentors, haha.
Mr. Barnes didn't like you? If so, that be low.. cause' you can't just steal someones style and then give them a bad grade He gave me a good grade because I smiled a lot... Pretty sad.
Onward To Olympas just released their music video [link] <- Shameless plug.

That video was sweet! The videographer has a lot of talent. I always forget how ridiculously heavy OTO is. That was face-smashing...
Work sucks. Money is overrated. Happiness is all that's important. That's my creedo. Unfortunately, in our capitalist paradise, money and work is necessary. Best just to figure out how to make money doing what makes you happy. You should keep going with photography if it makes you happy. You certainly have the talent for it.
I got an 'A' in Barnes' course. He liked me a lot, even though I liked to argue with him. Like you said, he even stole my fashion! xD
Trust me, that show is soooooo worth calling in sick for. Here's a shameless plug of my own: Braveyoung's live video = [link]
