So I read somewhere that a friend of yours is working on a CatCF ''patchwork fic'' of sorts? I read the first two chapters and I absolutely adored the story... it hasn't been abandoned, has it?

I myself am writing a novel about Willy Wonka's childhood and teenage years, mostly based on the Burton film but with elements from other versions mixed in.

Hey! All the art I do here are actually drawn on my computer so the default background is gonna be white. Looking at your Willy Wonka pic (which looks pretty good by the way!), you're taking a picture of your drawing so the background won't be perfectly white. 

For taking a picture, you want to make sure that you have a good, preferably white, light source (a desk lamp for example). That way, it'll be easier to see your drawing. Make sure that this light isn't shining directly onto the paper (otherwise your drawing will kind of fade into the paper) and that you aren't blocking the light.

You can also change your picture filter and settings to improve your picture. For example, if your pic is black and white, you can use the monochrome (or similar) filters to make the lines and shading more clear. In addition, you could increase the contrast of your picture so that the lines stand out more. 

Here are some general guidelines: the entire drawing should be in the picture and you shouldn't be able to see things that aren't part of the drawing (ex. the floor, desk, etc.). Your camera should be completely flat facing the drawing (so that your drawing in the picture doesn't look distorted). Don't use flash on the camera (unless you absolutely have no good light source).

Here's an example of a picture I took of a drawing . I basically put my drawing on the floor of my friend's dorm and took the picture standing up. The picture ended up a little yellow (because the light was yellow) so I put my drawing through a monochrome filter.

But what about those other artists who upload hand-drawn pictures that don't turn kinda yellowish or brownish? Do they use a scanner of something?

Usually, they'll either put it through a scanner or take the picture using high quality cameras and a good light source. They usually have the tools ad proper set up to take good pics and can also color correct the photo digitally. I rarely take pictures of my hand drawings so my advice is low tech and from an amateur's perspective lol

If you want more professional tips, there are many online resources on how to take pictures for portfolios and stuff that can help you!
