Please forgive a very newbie-ish question, but would scanning developed film on a normal computer scanner produce any kind of decent result?

I've been able to scan negatives with a normal flatbed scanner, but the negative must be perfect.
If it has the minimum scratch, it will totally ruin it, because somehow it reflects back the sensor light and distorts the image.
As ~RKHobbs says, if you can find the transparency adaptor for your scanner, it's the way to go.

Some scanners have a transparency feature that works well. If your scanner doesn't have a transparency option, then you aren't likely to get a good result.

Thank you for that, I'll see if mine has that feature.

before i join this group could someone answer a few questions?
is it relatively active- my photos won't expire when i enter them? (this has happened too often in past groups.)
are beginners allowed?
how many deviations am i allowed per week?

We add a few phots every day.
Some of your entries might expire if we take others ahead of them.
Beginners are welcome.
It's probably best not to send more than 3 or 4 in a week. Otherwise we won't get to them all.

It could be due to not using the correct film speed for the amount of light... Make sure you're using ISO 100 when you're shooting in direct sunlight, and 400 in lower light.

I need help! This summer I took a Holga darkroom class. My black and white pictures came out great. After class, I got cocky and decided to try Fuji color 120 film. I have overexposed all 6 rolls of the film I bought. Does anyone have any tips on what film, how to best expose the film? I think I need to learn some more before I waste any more film.

If you are using negative film, some overexposure is no problem.
Transparency (slide) film is much less forgiving.
Generally speaking, an unmodified Holga will give great results with 100 speed film in bright sun and 400 speed film if it is cloudy. Using negative film will give you the exposure latitude you need.
The two aperture settings don't actually change exposure on a regular Holga.

Ah....I was using 400 speed film on bright sunny days. Thank you so very much! One more question...Do you use Fuji color film or some other brand?

I like Fuji, but use whatever you like. Different films will give different color, contrast, grain, etc.
Holgas seem to particularly thrive on cheap, outdated film.

Thanks so much for your help. I am not as discouraged now. I'm going to try the 100 ISO. I feel so stupid. I should have thought of that. I used 100 ISO Black & White for my Holga class. But our teacher suggested the 400 color film. I thought it was me who screwed up.

Don't feel stupid. Holgas are different.
You'll try to do what you want to do. The Holga will try to do what it wants to do. Sometimes you'll hit a place in the middle that's fantastic.
Not every time.

Walked past someone today on the street who was standing on the side and had a holga round his waist... thinking there might be some kind of brotherhood (or like Mini drivers sometimes flash their headlights at eachother) I said cheerfully as I walked past: "Holga! Good stuff!! Keep the lomography going!"
.... guy looked at me as if I was some sort of freak and didn't even say anything back! V embarrassing!
