Yw ! I both like and dislike your art. Its something i cant wrap my mind around
At first glance i cant seem to see the whole picture, but the more i look the more i see.
There´s so many details but yet very interesting.

Just by looking at "Run Rabbit Run" i get the feeling theres a great story to this, (i know it is) but its the whole expression of the rabbit, his armor and sword they are just great. And suddenly you see there´s a skeleton snake behind him. There´s just no ending to the surprices in your art

Thank you very much for your honesty and kind words both I really appreciate it, to be honest I still can't decide myself if I like or dislike my art but the best thing I can do is just keep on painting and improving. I definitely agree with what you said though and thank you for taking the time to look at all the details of my work, I guess my work definitely rewards those who take time to look at it!

How are you getting on with your own art, are you happy with how its evolving? I notice you do both traditional and digital art and do a variety of subjects as well, do you have a preference in what medium or subject you like doing best at all? Are you working on a new piece of art now?

house89 In reply to SoldierOfThe44th [2020-01-28 09:26:56 +0000 UTC]

Haha best thing is to keep arting!
But i really believe you have somehow completed a fase in your kind of skillset. I think the complete drawing with the expressions, story, colors is exellent, you make exellent in all levels in the drawing.

Well, i got the idea to buy 2 dogs about 2 years back, and all my time goes into them so im just coming back from that it seems. Oils are my absolute favourite medium, and i've noticed i do alot of portraits of animals, i have no idea why thou, but its my thing i guess. I have a small piece going, havn't decided yet if im going to publish or not Future will tell hehe.

Yes definitely and thank you again for the postive feedback as its very uplifting especially for someone like me who is always full of self doubt!

I can imagine having 2 dogs at the same time does take a lot of free time away though I think continuing to do animal portraits perhaps in oils seems like a good idea for you? Your other pet portraits are very good and I can imagine all the different paintings you could do of your dogs such as them being at home or visiting different places while taking them for a walk. I definitely look foward to seeing your future work though if you decide to publish them, does it take a long time for you to finish a oil painting and how hard do you find it compared to doing digitial art? I used to paint with oils myself but it took me months to finish something so I eventually discovered watercolours and have stuck with them for the time being!

Well you shouldn't be, but i know the feel. I still have a hard time painting infront of anyone really.

Yes thank you for pointing pet portrait out! Im in some kind of state were my thougts are, should i keep painting and why, what is the point, and yet i get frustrated when i dont know what to draw/paint haha.

Back in the days i could spend hours on a single painting, but now its more like 1-2 hours and then im done. With the digital its more like 6-8 hours. Oils are more "alive" in a way.
Like the one im doing now, it's not complete but its dry so i feel like i cant touch it anymore but still not done. But im definitly gonna give it a try.
If im gonna compare digital and oil hmm i mean its just a different technique, digital i can add more detail. My oils are more abstract in a way.
You gotta have alot of patience with your drawings and your mind must be crazy with all the details
Have you tried digital yourself?

Yes a lack of confidence does suck but I feel that as you get better at art you also start feeling better which helps, painting infront of people though does sound scary! I have recently been thinking about doing a Youtube channel and doing art on that but I am still not used to the idea of people watching me paint haha. How about you have you ever painted infront of people then and had a audience? How do you feel about the idea of live streaming your art would you ever do that?

I think every artist goes through that point and really as your arts really good I think that is reason enough for you to keep going! have you ever considered doing commissions if you haven't already? You could do pet portraits for people or even do scenes like the beach etc with dogs in? I definitely advise sticking to painting subjects you like though as painting something you don't have any interest in is a good way to kill your art enthusiasm!

You can paint with oils very quickly! I know what you mean about traditional art feeling more alive and well I think its nice you can get paintings framed and hang them on a wall, digital art definitely has its place though and I can see from your art alone that you can get very good realistic and detailed finishes with it. I tried doing traditional art about 15 years ago and I found it very hard then due to the software available, now though I imagine art programs are really good. I think its good to try lots of different mediums so maybe I will try doing digital art again, what programs do you use to do your digital art? Thanks again .

house89 In reply to SoldierOfThe44th [2020-01-30 18:43:02 +0000 UTC]

Actually i tried live streaming, just for fun and i got maybe 2 watchers and then i got nervous haha. It was to much trouble for me setting up all the recordings and stuff, it took the fun with painting away from me. It's the same for me if im about to sell anything. Really i don't know what to say about my art, it's just there with no explanation. And usually you have to say atleast something about your artwork, atleast come up with a name, not very creative with that as you can see if u go throu my gallery hehe.

I did commisions about maybe 7 years ago, it's always fun to draw something nice to people, but it got to much and also took the fun away, i felt trapped and got anxiety by not being able to finish some commisions. I tried once again at a higher price ( i think its up on my wall still) but Deviant is kinda dead nowadays, maybe it's for the best i didn't get any.

Its just my style in oils that makes me quick i think
Digital i use KRITA its a free drawing program kinda like Paint Tool Sai but free. If you feel like hey this is fun i recommend you buy a drawing tablet.
I use a wacom bamboo intous something something, it's affordable and does it's purpose real well.

So you gonna try livestreaming?

SoldierOfThe44th In reply to house89 [2020-01-31 10:43:02 +0000 UTC]

Yes I can imagine how worrying it is when you start getting watchers like that and if it was me I would probably hide under the bed haha, still at least you had a go doing it even if you didn't particular like the end result. Getting all the recording equipment etc set up sounds a pain as well, could you not just do videos of you doing your art like speed paintings or how to do lessons which aren't live and which you could just upload to Youtube?

As for finding a subject matter and direction for your art well I had that trouble for a long time, I did pictures of different themes like landscapes and sci fi etc but I didn't feel happy with the theme of any of them and they just felt like random pieces with no connection. So because of that eventually I decided to focus on one subject and work on trying to make a story to fit my art together. In your instance I think you need to think carefully about what art subject matter you really like and then base themes around them, for example you like pet portraits but what about doing something different with them to seperate them from other pet portraits? It could be to do with the style of the painting or the background or something unique to do with the pet itself.

Well its good you tried commissions and I realize they can be quite stressful as its always worrying wondering if the client will be happy but generally did your commission experiences go ok? Deviantart is rather quiet so its probably not the best place for commissions, do you have a Facebook page for your art at all? I have noticed there is a lot of Facebook art groups based around either being generic or around themes like pet portraits etc and so it might be a good place to get feedback on your art as well as commissions via your page.

Your oil paintings are nice so the additional benefit of them being quick to do is really cool! So you do all your drawing on a tablet for digital work? In that case I will probably have to invest in one then, I have heard of Wacom tablets so that it is a good place to start!

I would like to try live streaming one day but I think before that I will try just recording videos and uploading them to Youtube and see how it goes, I do have several problems though in that I don't have a good area to record anything currently and also my way of painting is so strange and long winded it wouldn't make for a good video!

Hi, sorry for late reply, i've been working the nightshift.

I've been thinking about that too, and speedpaints you don't rly have to talk or anything so i think that would have been a good deal for me haha. As things are now i don't see myself doing it in the near future thou.
I believe it would be rather interesting to see you doing a speedart video. And i think people would like it, especially if you come up with a childrens book after your youtube hype

Actually i tried real art lession stuff. We'd hook up about 6-7 times and i tried my best to teach how to draw, light and shadows etc. It was fun for sure, but it's not for me. I think i just wanna sit at home and paint and thats it.

You have a great point dealing with my art. It's just that i have no plan with it. Im not selling, not really promoting, have no backround story to it, it's just there as i said before. And honestly i really never understood why people are drawing the same thing over and over, but then again im doing the same, i mean you could tell what artpiece belongs to me and what not. I mean people draw an apple in different positions and have 20 pieces of art in the end of the same thing. That's what i'd never really understood. I've been to artschool and its the same thing there too. I cant seem to stand still and work on the same thing.i need to move on and do another and another. I'ts more like im a junkie when it comes to arting haha.
But your idea is good and i should listen to your advice and atleast try it out

My commisions went pretty well, although it was alsmost for free, maybe 30-50 points i got for them, was mostly for fun i enjoyed the happiness and nice words people wrote. Facebook i havn't rly tried out . Im posting more on instagram and now Artstation. How do you like Artstation btw? Do you have instagram or any other social media where you post your art?
I can tell you im looking forward to see you on youtube, would be very interesting to see how you come up with the idea and how you work your way throu it

Hey there thats no problem at all take as long as you need to reply as I understand that life can be quite busy, how was the nightshift work? Is it something you enjoy doing and is it regular work? Oh and before I forget I actually just noticed it was your birthday recently so even though its a bit late I wish you a happy birthday, hopefully you had a nice day!

It seems to me that you were very interested and passionate about art in the past and tried lots of things like live streaming to put your art out there but now in recent times your art enthusiasm isn't the same as it was? I can only presume that it is because your life priorities have changed and art is no longer your top concern maybe? Still maybe you just need a boost in the right direction to rekindle that artistic passion and that will defintely be the main obstacle, you mentioned you used to teach people how to draw etc in the past...is there no people you could talk and share art with locally or no art competitions or exhibits you could try and enter and work towards? Sometimes galleries have competitions based around a subject matter so that at least could give you a subject that you could paint towards? I do agree and also I can't understand why people draw and paint the same things over and over, I am not sure if its because they are afraid to try different things incase they can't do it or they feel that they are improving their art by doing the same thing over and over but it must be quite boring after a while. Still I think you can paint a similar subject matter but draw and paint it different enough that it feels new everytime, like for example you could paint dogs in abstract, cubism etc and make each art piece unique.

I think its a good learning experience to do comissions to see what sort of art people want and how they react to the finished work, you wouldn't consider trying it online again? Its funny you mentioned Instagram as I made a profile recently and I am planning to upload my work on there when I get my new phone soon, its quite new to me but do you literally just take photos of your work using your camera phone and upload it? How active is it compared to Deviantart and do you prefer it? As for Artstation I like the professional layout and vibes of the site which makes it good to show your profile to people however I find it very hard to get favourites etc on there and communication isn't as good as it is on a site like this. Artstation is also very 3D digital based which is fine though it makes it harder to showcase traditional 2D works, how have you been getting along with Artstation? The only other site I post my art on currently is Facebook where I share my art to groups which are quite active though the feedback is incredibly inconsistent. One time I get 80 or more favourites and lots of comments and other times I would be lucky to get 3 favourites.

Thanks again for the encouragement and I will look into Youtube once I got my phone and have Instragram sorted!

Well thanks for understanding!
I work the night and evening shift bcause of the dogs, that way they're never alone for long periods. Nights are quite hard sometimes,it isnt much to do at my job but i do love the fact that i can go home and sleep when the world wakes up to a stressful day.
Thank you for your b-day wishes, it was great

Creating pictures has always been my number one hobby or rather my way of expressing myself, i dunno if you can tell, but putting my thoughts into words is a real challenge to me, It takes a great deal of concentration to figure out how to do it. That's why i always do it in the morning with a big cup of coffee haha.
I guess mostly my energy is focused on the dogs, they're always moving around, watching me or playing. I didnt realise you had to emerge with the dogs that way. Dont get me wrong, its never booring with them its just that they are not that artsy so i am neither. Kinda weird but thats one of the reasons im not doing that much art anymore.

What about you, what are your art experience, did you go to school etc? What made you begin and continue your arting?

Commisions are not for me atm. But it was a real good experience and you always learn something even if you fail.
Hit me up with your instagram will you? You're just using your phone, dosn't need to be all that professional. Use tags if u wanna get likes thou, quite hard to get them and also lots of bot profiles that gives comments so i always check them. I prefer Deviant for sure, but as all social media its quite dead to what it used to be. I feel like you have to be very crafty and social to get attention nowadays, it's not about talent, it's about how fast and how much you can make kinda.
Artstation has it's bots to i noticed. As soon as i post something there are two bots liking my stuff, its so sad to see in someway, dosnt have a real meaning behind them :/ Maybe facebook is the way to go then?

Looking forward to see how you do on instagram, maybe you could do short videos and try it out before youtube?

Have a great day!

Ah yes that makes sense to leave them at night when they are asleep rather than during the day when they are wide awake and full of energy, have you been doing the nightshift for a long time then? Also how old are your dogs?

Well to be honest I am not always brillant at writing what I am meaning to say and as I am quite shy being able to get my point across in person is equally as hard as well haha, still don't worry about your writing at all as I perfectly understand what you mean and a nice cup of coffee really does help as well haha. It has been a very long time since I had dogs myself and when I did have them I was to young to realize how demanding they were, I do remember going on lots of walks with them though. Do your dogs have toys to play with? I remember my parents giving our dogs rubber toys as well as soft toys and it did keep them occupied for good periods of time. It is a shame though that your art has to take a back seat though, I hope that changes for you in the future and maybe you will work out a regime where you can have a hour a day to do your art admist all the chaos of the rest of the day!

My art experience is strange to be honest, I did love drawing when I was really young but when I was a teenager at high school even though I chose art to study the art teacher basically said I wasn't good enough to do art. So because of that I ended up being the only person in my class to drop out and so I never bothered pursuing any art based activities because I was told I had no talent. Years later I randomly got back into painting miniatures which was a passion I had as a child and that rekindled my love for art that I had. I spent about 3-4 years painting miniatures and then I decided to start drawing again as I wanted to paint my own designs, so I started drawing again and started using oil paints to paint my own drawings. That has gone on up until 2018 when I got into watercolours which I have been using ever since, so in otherwords all my art is self taught which could be a reason why its as bizzare as it is haha. What is even stranger is that the same art teacher at school loved my brothers art and he went on to study art at not only high school but also college and univeristy for years, now though my brother has no interest in art and has not done any art for over 15 years. How about your art story, how did you get into art and how was your experiences studying it?

My Instagram is order_of_the_knight_owl   though its a empty profile at the moment until I get my new phone, so I don't need to worry about the photos being fantastic quality just as long as you can make out my art haha? I will be sure to use tags though and I noticed the bots as I already have extra watchers from people I don't know before I even started uploading! So Artstation has bots as well? I noticed that I get watches from people on there who have watched thousands of other people though I can't tell if they are bots or just people looking to get lots of watches back? I also get a lot of spam here on DA with bots sending messages about fake competitions, do you ever get that? Still I agree it does seem really hard to get a big following and be popular in art on social media, unfortuntately I wasn't around when sites like this were more active so it seems I missed the golden years haha. You should try Facebook groups though if you are ever in the mood, they at least seem more active than other places.

Yes maybe I will try and do short videos, I will need to work out about what recording to use as well as probably getting a new camera as mine is years old, what sort of software/hardware did you use to stream your videos?

Anyway take your time to reply and hope the dogs are behaving themselves .

I've been doing nights for about 2 years now, the big one turned 2 on christmas eve and the other one has b-day in march

So im here with my coffee again haha. Iguess its easier to struggle with writing than one to one person contact, the good thing is thou the more practise the better one gets
The dogs made me more unshy btw, people always commenting or just want to stay and talk for a while where i live. ( small town.) And trust me they have toys, they have a big backyards to run free on, they regually gets bone to snack on, (today they get rib from lamb). I hide food and do a litte search and eat thing for them. As you can see its a lot of work, and i think maybe my mind is satisfied dealing with the dogs so i dont need my arting anymore

Holy shit what a teacher. It's scary to think that just one person can make you go another direction, and think bad about yourself. I mean art is art, no one and everyone has a talent for it i believe. The only one that can truly judge your art is yourself! Did it hurt you in someway that your brother got to do the arting instead of you? And what did you do instead?

I started to draw as a kid and just naturally evolved i guess. I've always been a loner altough i had friends, but being by myself was the best and i think that maybe had to do with my obsession of creating.
I remember one way of thinking ; what if i can draw something and it would come to life! So it had to be anatomically correct. I scrolled through thousands of picture here on Da and google just to see how the body works when running, how the fur looks in the shade and on and on. And therefore i got into studying animals and their behaviour on my own. Also i believed that if you were to be a great painter, you need to make realistic art, otherwise your'e just shit.

So years went and i finally could draw realistic on the pc, i could do details i'd never dreamt of before. I got cred for it for sure, but i realized i wasnt this great painter or artist just because i did realistic portraits.
Everyone can train hard and do a realistic one i believe, it's much harder to come up with something weird (like your art) and put it on a piece of paper just like that. I admire your brain in that matter, and i know you are right when you say i should come up with something special in my portraits, i just gotta figure out what it should be, maybe after some years of thinking i could do it haha.

Bots are everywhere, i got the contests aswell "Click this link and you get your reward" thing haha.
I don't rly remember what software i used. I used to stream on twitch thou, and they got all you need....i think XD

Two years working nights is quite a while, basically you started as soon as you got your first dog? Have you managed to adapt your life around working at night as I can understand it can cause trouble with your inner clock, what time in the day do you sleep then? So will you be celebrating your dogs birthday in March ?

Funnily enough I end up writing these messages in the morning with coffee as it takes me at least a hour to wake up, I agree though like with all things that practice makes perfect and the more you talk to people in person or via message the easier it gets. I did get to see people more often in person in the past going to friends parties etc but that all seems to have stopped lately with most of them getting married and having families, do you still have friends you see often nearby? That is nice though that your dogs have actually helped you become more socialable and makes people come and talk to you, do you have a lot of nice places to take the dogs for a walk like countryside areas? Its good you give them lots of treats and play with them hiding their food and making it a game etc, its a good way to keep them occupied as you don't want bored dogs eating furniture haha.

Yes its awful really and just makes you wonder how many people have missed their correct life path because of awful teachers, I mean they have a massive responsibility and really they should be helping each pupil get to their max potential not crushing it. Were teachers bad at your schools at all? At the time I think I just accepted that my brother was the artist and everyone loved and accepted him and his work etc and I wasn't really anything. To be honest with you that was a really bad time of my life as I hated school and was bullied and I had no idea what to do once I left, I went to a college interview to try and study computer IT but the teacher there took one look at me and said I was not the type of person who did computer work so I was rejected. I am not making this up either, I didn't even get any chance or test or anything to apply for the course and was just rejected immeditely in the first 2 minutes of walking into the interview room with my parents. So what the college teacher suggested instead was courses that noone else wanted to take and that he had to fill up the numbers for like hairdressing, so basically because of that I didn't go to college and waited until my parents sold the house and moved. Unfortuntely because of how bad school was and that I had no idea what I was supposed to be doing in life I basically ended up coming down with very bad depression, my parents eventually moved house and I moved to a completely new city but it took me years to get out of the depression and the medication I took for it and get my health back in order. It was during that time I got back into painting miniatures which was a pastime I had when I was younger and then as years went by that evolved into drawing and using oil paints and basically I self taught myself art. Sorry its a bit of a depressing story but life never seems to go the way you want it to go!

So you were always into drawing even when you were really young? Did you have that obsession with creating when you were young as well then and what sort of art did your obsession make you want to create? I can see what you mean though about drawing and painting something extremely life like to the point it can pop off the paper and run around haha and I imagine you must of spent a great deal of time studying anatomy and animals etc to get to that level of realism, did you used to post your art to DA when you were still improving your art and did you get good feedback? I used to think that way as well about art has to be realistic otherwise you just haven't mastered the skills though my art ended up being anything but realistic haha.

I bet it felt good spending all that time and then seeing the fruits of your labour though and I bet it must of made you feel a lot more confident and happy about yourself as a person? I think it is quite hard to not just think of ideas for paintings but mainly to think of ideas that are different that you would actually want to paint, I feel that to do really good pieces of art you really have to be into the subject matter you are working on and if you are forcing yourself to do something you aren't that interested in then its going to really show in the finished art. I think that you have a ideal subject matter with animals especially dogs but you just need to find that one little thing that makes you excited and makes you really want to paint again, I really hope in the future when your dogs aren't so hyper that you find that missing piece and get to do art full time again!

I noticed DA made a headline about them prize bots so its definitely a big problem,it seems bots are everywhere on social media now! Anyway do you have any special plans for the weeks ahead or mainly just concentrating on work and looking after the dogs? Is there any TV series you like watching?

Its just a couple of days of drying But i understand your point haha, i rly liked i though, i think with oils you get a different feeling somehow, the painting gets so smooth and mysterious..
Happy new year! <3
