# About me
There are many different ideas about what "indie" photography is and we aren't here to tell you what it is, we just want to support and appreciate photographs that have meaning and substance. There is no specific look to indie photography, it's not all lomography and polaroids, it's what you make of it.# Comments

Greetings!
We are hosting a contest and are asking our affiliates to help us with prizes. We were wondering of there is any chance your group would be willing to do a Feature for our winners?
Anything you could do to help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you for your time!

Here are some links with tips, from our older journals.
I think they need to be made more accessible to our members, but nothing has been done about that yet...
I hope they help!

Because I never receive much of any pictures in my inbox, which is surprising since you guys have so many members

Hm, that's weird! We post photos pretty much every day.
Maybe you somehow accidentally unticked the 'deviations' box on your watchlist? You can check by going on our main page, then click in the right corner where there's the '+watch' button - it should show you the details about what you are watching from us (deviations, news, journals etc.)
That's the only thing I can think of that could be the problem!
We are 100% still active

Nah I didn't do that, I still receive stuff, just only like 15 deviations in weeks

VeraAda In reply to Mrs-Durden [2011-05-25 14:21:35 +0000 UTC]
that's very strange, we definitely accept more than that...

Hey, I was wondering how long it usually takes to judge submissions to this group? I'm not mad, i promise haha. I was just curious because I submitted a piece on April 22nd that hasn't been accepted or declined yet. Is that normal?
Ps. I love this group, and am certainly not bashing it (:

Genabubbles In reply to djibouti4 [2011-05-11 14:17:55 +0000 UTC]
Yup, entirely normal! You need to get 4 votes to be accepted. But if it's a tie you need a fifth to vote on it. So yours may be on a tie.. And some of our mods only log in every few weeks or so. And thus some deviations get submitted or declined quickly because they are voted on with majority one way or another, but ties need to be resolved. So don't fear! Just gotta wait for that last mod!
We're working hard in private mod discussions to work out better ways to communicate about this kind of stuff with you guys!

Excuse me but....WHAT KIND OF PHOTO YOU ACCEPT???
ALWAYS DECLINED!!!!
I'm not an indie guy, maybe too mainstream but...photography is photography ΒΏwhat kind of photo accept here?
π: 0 β©: 1
VeraAda In reply to Arvalus [2011-04-30 01:13:44 +0000 UTC]
We have a set of rules for why we tend to decline photos, and a set of guidelines for submissions.
If you joined the group without actually knowing what kind of work we accept, that's not our fault.
Here are links to our rules and guidelines: [link] [link]

I'm afraid I have to echoe the concerns of other members. I feel this group is close minded to interesting concepts and has been favouring personal bias when selecting featured images. It seems out of focus snapshots on "really cool" film stocks are getting more attention than consciously composed images shot in unique ways. You claim in the group info: "Wearing vintage and skinny jeans does not auto make you 'indie' ". But I dare to say you're not making your case. I joined this group out of frustration from the clique mentality of groups like iphotograph and unknown-photography, but I'm not sure this group is any different. I recently had this deviation rejected in less than a day ([link] ). It is one of many I've had thrown back in my face, though some members seem to have deviation after deviation accepted each week. Call it sour grapes perhaps, but I call it long time coming frustration from a group that has much potential.

I know what you mean. I joined the moderator team fairly recently because I enjoy working on group teams and helping out. I've been a member of this groups for several years, and I've been getting frustrated myself. To be honest, even my pictures don't get accepted. It's frustrating working in or being a member of a group with such abstract guidelines. I'm sorry your picture was rejected. Voting was already closed when I saw it.

Its interesting to me that I'm getting ACTIVE responses from moderators like you, but the other side of the issue has been quiet so far. I appreciate your response (as well as everyone else's). I tend to feel bad when I bring up an issue like this, but fail to offer any sort of solution or contribution. But I AM glad that I'm not the only voice expressing these frustrations. I do still enjoy the group, and conversation is always the first step in bettering communities.
