I am a mother, and a real woman. That body is not "Fat" It's motherly. It's a body that has clearly housed and nourished children. It's a beautiful woman's body.
I find it sick and disgusting how society has totally thrown away the woman, in favor of having the pre-pubescent girl. Britney Spears anyone? Everyone loved her when she was a child. Now she's a grown woman (her mental issues aside here, I'm going on physical appearance here) the media is depicting her as FAT.
All I have to say is thank you for this picture. Thank you...it's almost like looking in the mirror. I have tears in my eyes right now.

I just posted my comment on "Message" but I'd like to say it to you^^ :
IronDawn has a lovely body and a beautiful face. There are so many different messages that could be taken from this, but I find her to be very pretty. She has the body that the great artists like Michealangelo painted, the shapely, alluring curves of a strong, sturdy, healthy woman who is fit to bear children.
Now, I am not this body type, actually I am just the opposite; ever since I was little, I weighed close to nothing. I was always under 80 lbs no matter what I ate. I remember the nurses when I was little telling me, "Come now, the next time we see you, you need to be 90 lbs, okay?" Even now, years later, at age 19 and a height of 5'2" I still range under 110 lbs. My friends are always concerned that I don't eat, but I do.
People who think that being thin is the only acceptible image of 'health' and 'beauty' need to do their research. Thinner women have more complications with child birth and those with small breasts cannot breast feed as much because it damages breast tissue each time. I do believe that this is the male fascination with wide hips, big rears, and full chests... But being thin does not mean healthy. At my weight, just last year I was considered borderline obese, because while I was thin, my fat percentage was too high (I had more fat than muscle). I don't know why people think the boney, fragile women are more beautiful than those with natural curves. Frankly, I look at myself and other women and think we would look better and healthier with a few more pounds, softening our boney edges and giving us a little more curvature.
Anyway, my point is, this is a lovely picture with a model who is in my opinion, prettier than any runway model, simply because her body type is more realistic and natural^^

I'd love to do a shot, with my proud 'baby belly' with the words: 'Home to: Anya, Elliott, Christian, & Erica Joy'
After 4 children, I'm proud of what my tummy did for me, (giving me my wonderful family) Proud, yes, brave enough to make that shot? Sadly, no.
But you've got me thinking again, prehaps for my personal work, I might.

You should do it! That sounds like a great shot AND it will mean a lot to you afterwards.
And it might mean quite a lot to your kids later too.
Start, perhaps, with the photo centering on your tummy with the words, and slowly work backwards to your comfortability. No one says that you have to show anything - bravery, schmavery. Do what makes you feel proud, and no more and no less.

I love "Message". It was a very good idea, and brings across a strong emotion. You're beautiful, just the way you are, and look a lot better then a lot of "thin" models. I wish magazines and movies had more people like you in them. A lot of the time, I hate how I look, and I don't think I could get the courage to pose nude even if I was 100 pounds, but you did, and I must give you applause for that, for the courage you have. And I must thank you for making a picture that will send such a strong message across.

You know, it never felt scary. Since I'd brought it up to :ayehli:, I was very determined to do the piece.
However, halfway through the shoot, I started to feel sad and self-deprecating. I was SO trying to show my reaction to the words on my body that I started to feel badly about it, all over again. I started to cry.
At the end, I told :ayehli: that I needed to have some photos of me really loving my body. We did that too...and I recovered.
I say this because it is amazing how much we let words sink in, through our skin, into our minds, and start to make it a part of our perspective. There I was, trying to be empowering, and I was starting to hate my body even MORE.
We are so connected to our physical selves - despite how much we try to separate our mind and body, there will always be some reverb.

I saw the photo of you, "Message", as a favorite on my friend Mimii's page. I cried. My body is very similar to yours (my tummy is bigger and hangs over).
I don't know if I could do what you did for that shot; pose for it in the first place, then allow it to be shown. You do, however, inspire me to at least consider doing a self-portrait.

Thanks. It's not about how I feel about myself. It's about how I feel people judge others by factors such as body shape and other aesthetics.
If someone posted the same photo on DeviantArt without the message, I think many people would post, "Wow, she's fat." Or perhaps they would just find themselves "Not liking it".
They wouldn't comment on the lighting, or the composition, etc. They would be immediately moved to deal with the overweight issue instead of the purpose.
This happens all the time with people everyday. People don't get jobs because they aren't attractive enough, or they are overweight, or they are older or younger. Not because of their abilities or their minds, but because of an aesthetic that has been created by some group of people somewhere.
Gah, I've rambled. I don't visit often, so I felt the need to reexplain. Thank you for your thoughts and kindness. It is appreciated.

That image, which was a collaboration between you and the photographer in the most perfect sense, is one of the first nudes in YEARS that I was jumping up and down screaming "Woohooo!!!"

We're all guilty and innocent at the same time.
Would you believe that smaller fat people tend to make fun of larger fat people? Or the recent things with people who have been anorexic spilling over onto those who are naturally thin? They've been getting a lot of flack.
It really is rampant. I'm not sure it will ever really stop. We continually classify each other, size them up, place in box.

it's human nature to categorize. it keeps everything in a nice neat little place so we know where we stand in the rest of society. i know that sounds all faceless and crap but it all boils down to self image and affirmation. it's sad that we can be strong all the time and not care what other people think. i appreciate your perspective and honesty.
