As for emoticons, there are three basic types. Some of them dA converts automatically, like
With some, you can just use a colon, the emoticon name, then another colon. That creates emoticons like 
And with others, mostly pictures like and less common emoticons like , you have to use this format (I'll use the dragon one as an example): :icon dragonhug plz: without the spaces. For these ones especially, you have to have both colons, the "icon" at the beginning and "plz" at the end, or it'll just appear as text. These are mostly known as plz's because of this rule. But, on the plus side, there are far more plz emoticons/pics than the regular kind. There's a whole account for them: ~PLZ-accounts

I can only do this on a computer. You hover over your username at the top of the screen, and a drop-down menu appears with Profile, Settings, and Logout. In Settings, you can create a signature right under where you upload your avatar/icon ^^
