Funny how a pic with a nude woman in it gets a lot of views; but, if it is filtered or not revealing, it gets no comment . . .

Anyone have ideas on how to make it more clear that my retouches are not original and that they are reworked versions of other artists? I started adding a link to the originals. Should I word the descriptions better?

joemaples [2007-01-29 19:52:40 +0000 UTC]

I just figured out how to put a link into my retouch description. Thanks to a fellow deviant's comment. I hope this will held to credit the originals better! Thanks to all the artists who let me play with their stuff and those who offer help!

If you see retouched pics her and you don't want them up, let me know. All I want to do is better work that is already good. I do not want to hurt anyone. This is all in good spirits.

photoshop 7.0 I just set up CS2. I welcome all tips, please. I want to learn. I've used PSP so go ahead! Thanks!

Ah, photoshop. How do I hate your mysteries... and shortcuts. Anyhow.

I edited an image you had edited, and uploaded it to scraps. I can upload the PSP 8 file too, if you want to see exactly how I did it.
Link to my edit is here: [link]
Original: [link]

1) Texure is your friend. If you smooth an image, you need to smooth the whole image to some extent. It looks more real that way, as if the focus was originally fuzzy.

2) The clone brush often looks better than blur, for spot-fixing. If it's on 50% opacity or less, and you pick something similar in texture and color, you can cover up small spots very easily. Large areas can be tricky, because you have to make sure the shading looks ok. (for instance, cloning over something on a ball. the color may stay the same, but the brightness changes)

3) Using a mask can make changes much easier. When you use a mask, it affects the layer below it in a special way. The mask is only greyscale, because it changes the opacity of layers below it. If you "erase" something using a mask, it's not really gone. I usually use a mask to cut out part of a layer I duplicated/edited, or changed the blend mode on. In Photoshop, masks also do things like change sharpness or saturation.

4) Don't mess with eyes too much! They have a lot of detail, and over-altering color or lightness can make them look goofy. If you change the color, make sure the reflection stays true to what it is reflecting. The pattern of light/dark streaks needs to stay visible too.
