Sure, i enjoy what you've done. Just one question: whatever happened to that first picture of things gonna get green? Did you take it down once the comic is up? I liked that picture which became the lower right corner panel of the first page.

I usually put up a teaser image to draw intrigue whilst waiting for the remainder. When the piece is finished, I take it down since the finished product is available for viewing. But, as I mentioned before on that image; I may use it as the base for a title card for the story.

The reason that image left an impression on me was not only because of the inquiring manner which roxy looked at it, but rather, i can picture so vividly that very image in reverse. I saw a masked roxy holding a shell of her real face and looking at it while seated on that same sofa, kinda like aldo krasker holdin the same on the cover of the mask omnibus. Only that lampstand in the background is turned upside down, the picture hung askew. But oh well, i shoulda saved it before you took it down

The kind of face-ripping stuff is something I want to incorporate into the story as well as a scene like what you've imagined there; Roxanne removing her face to show herself actually masked.

kathingreen In reply to kathingreen [2013-09-14 05:20:28 +0000 UTC]

Well, lunch just ended after nearly 2 weeks so....no, just kidding. Sorry it's taken me this long to reply, helluva crazy week really. This and the last one.

I'll not address the attacks since they're just that, attacks. I am breaking this up into 2 parts as I see it...apologies if it is too scholarly....

I just find the transformative aspects of it weirdly hot. ...about wallflower librarians putting it on and becoming S+M dom queens. Jekyll and Hyde for the porn generation in other words.

I don't WANT characters from other properties wearing the Mask.Β I want original stories and comics

No matter how it is expressed, I think the desire that most of us have to see the opposite sex (female in our case) don the mask is, to a large extent, fetishistic in nature. What forms part of the appeal, I have dissected before under a separate post, but in a nutshell, yes, I too find this aspect of donning The Mask erotic. I suppose it is part of my belief in the protean woman - how women are at once many things being a constituting factor of the erotic to me. Since ancient history, men have always obsessed over how women can be so 'soft' and feminine yet sexy and confident at the same time. Take for example, the human tendency to divide women into different aspects (I find this so much more prevalent than attempts to segregate aspects of men) such as the concept of maiden mother crone, Madonna/whore dichotomies and the ancient Indian goddess Durga who has so many aspects, gentle nurturing mother at one end of the spectrum and at the extreme other, the terrifying Kali. The Mask can be seen as a physical representation of the mythic link between aspects of a woman....in a way, it satisfies the transitory stage, unlike the comics where you see a person in one panel and said person as Big Head in the next. It doesn't gratify. Guess that might explain (to me) why we like cosplays and tend to classify girls into 'types' (sunshine, bookish appeal, femme fatale etc.)Β

Power is an aphrodisiac.Β The Mask also grants that.Β That said, I'm not into S+M domination....that's too extreme for me. Rather than Pornography, I prefer eroticism which has an aspect of the romantic...the former is explicit and leaves nothing to the imagination while the latter is almost an epiphany at times...a woman behaving naturally, doing her everyday work can represent competence which is an aspect of power, and that can be sexy and suddenly arousing...and in my opinion, what constitutes the natural in human society includes the complex interaction between fellow humans, character development, gradual relationship building etc. Someone you can identify and bond with, a character which you will grow with or grow to like, all of which we see too few of in fan created works of the mask. It is definitely niche, but in all fairness, take a look at most of the fanfics...it is a straight rush into a character putting on the mask and rehashing most of the movie jokes. I agree with the poster's call for more originality and effort in creation...but I think it is self contradictory and ridiculous to call for porn and creative originality as I defined above since porn generally rushes into things and bares everything explicitly to satisfy an urge. An image as opposed to a relationship. I think I will stop here before I ramble on endlessly.Β

Some of us are obviously consumers without the ability to produce well. I believe I am one of these people (like the poster) who can identify what I want and expect, but cannot create to satisfy that ideal or turn vision into reality. I think the attacks were uncalled for, but I think nothing of expressing one's own views.

it's an amazing piece, you kindled a childhood fantasy, the locked away 'what if...?' that was never answered hitherto. but in black and white, with the studs and leather and prominent cheekbones, it bore a shocking resemblance to the sister nikolata cenobite from the hellraiser movie. just saying. the best part however is that i see a resemblance to tina in those thick lids and heavy eyelids. thats seductive.

p.s. totally agree with u that tina shoulda worn the mask in the 94 movie.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

Any-Other In reply to kathingreen [2013-07-03 18:56:26 +0000 UTC]

I've run across a few fanfictions where Tina gets a hold of the Mask, but they're surprisingly rare (and even the fanart is sparse). And she's generally some shade of Jessica Rabbit, anyway.

Glad it looks like her, I referenced a screencap from the movie (her "just got kissed" face). I'm usually fair-to-middlin' with portraits.

Thanks for your fave as well. It's not a story so much as doodling with words heh. I never could bring myself to set pen to paper and spin my ideas into a story. Whatever I write seems too flawed in my eyes. I'm a coward like that

Maternal care 4 is a favourite because, well, I just find the concept sexy. If you've read my doodle, I also included such a scene and it's nice to see it represented in drawing. I follow your artwork because we seem to share certain ideas and you seem to portray the mask's wearers in a spirit closer to the comic which I favor. I also like #32, that's sexy as hell too.

And I would say the feeling's mutual, so we cancel each other out: I found something, at last, in my quest for gratification. Just saying what I feel is all but all the same, no problem. For me, you're an exciting discovery and I checked out your other works since 2008, inclusive of your SmileZ/Loudmouth/Limitation/Cueball pieces. Didn't leave any comments on those however, maybe because I'd appear to have commented too late by 2 years.

I see that you're charging five bucks per commission through paypal (very reasonable!) and I'd gladly pay for something if it only weren't for the fact that my paypal is....not very useable.

That reminds me. It's funny how this is linked to the mask as well, but just to share an anecdote (let you know my obssession with the character), I started and ended my very short period of owning a paypal account because of.... bighead. See, I was burning to get my hands on some The Mask comics after reading about them so much (actually, because of Kathy, hence my UN if you noticed), so I finally convinced my father to set up a paypal account with his credit card...turned out that something went wrong with his card and I couldn't deliver on my payment. Got some negative remarks and harsh comments from the person I arranged to get the comics and never went back to paypal thereafter, partly out of shame and irrational fear of the seller lol. After some time, my old man went bankrupt (failed business), so no more credit cards or paypal account as far as the law's concerned. Been so long that I forgot the UN and PW totally. True story, bro.

dullpanic In reply to kathingreen [2010-12-18 04:58:11 +0000 UTC]

Well that sucks because not only do I charge five bucks I don't ask for the money until I got the piece finished. See that way if I never do it the customer doesn't have to freak out over giving the money, as soon as he pays he gets what he asks for.

Speaking of the symbiote, I've been thinking of ways to have both the mask and the symbiote in the same story together, so far I've had two idea's on how to do it

not sure if I'll post it yet, I'm still trying to work out how to use them both together at the smae time, so far my best idea is for the mask to fall on the symbiote, making it a green symbiote that affects people like the mask

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

kathingreen In reply to Jesphox11 [2009-07-08 12:33:59 +0000 UTC]

Symbiote and mask, that's kinda tough gahaha. I thought it'd just be a face-off in the same universe is all. Them things are as different as night and day, one is an organism totally explained by science while the other is, well, totally magical. Doctor strange meets Mister Fantastic hahaha. The challenge in this case is how to make doctor strange and mister fantastic the one and same person and yet feels natural.

Hmm yea, it's not so fitting the moment i hit enter because I'm aware of technology meeting magic as well. Just that in symbiote + mask on one individual, need to figure out a good way to express it without seeming like overkill. Anything the symbiote can do, the mask can do though not the other way round makin it kinda redundant?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Jesphox11 In reply to kathingreen [2009-07-08 12:44:33 +0000 UTC]
