# About me

my old account was shoopoopi

Hello! I am generally known online as Kazuma, I have a bachelors degree in fine arts focusing in Ceramics (though I could have focused in Glass blowing/fusing if the school had let me count those classes as the focus). I now have several years of experience in Ceramics and I hope to be able to get back into it soon. While I enjoy drawing and other 2d types of art, They are generally not my passion and I personally don't like my style of 3d art in many cases.

I am currently a retail associate with Centurylink, with a goal to someday open up a ceramic store. I will continue to practice ceramics until the day I feel I am good enough to be able to do that.

One thing I did a few years back was write a poem book, this book is a self published book with all my poems in it, While I would love to be able to sell it in stores, I have not tried to do that as it isn't currently worth the time for me and I am happy enough with the self published book.

Very recently (within the last few months), I have started to get into photography, this is something that before this past year, I had never really tried to do for a few reasons. I first never had that great of a camera, my best camera being a cheaper camera used for taking pictures of my 3d art pieces. This was the main reason for not doing photography, it created an effect where the photos I would take just wouldn't be that great and made me not really interested in it. A few months back (between 6 months and a year ago), I was lucky to get a great camera for an extremely good price. I ended up buying it and while for the first few months I didn't use it much, I have recently started to use it more and more. I am still learning the tricks to capture great shots but am also very happy with several shots I have been able to capture. Another reason was simply that I didn't have a desire to capture anything, I was fine with what I was doing and so I didn't give it much thought. I have started to notice that I love pictures of nature and things related to it. The majority of my pictures I hope will be related to that and can maybe even spark interest and help in areas related to nature that need it.

My goal now is to figure out how to create high quality photos from this photography as a means of selling, This is new to me and I'm still deciding on the best places to do the printing. I hope that I will be able to showcase this work publicly and not just through the use of the internet. I will try to update this as I get more and more used to photography and the printing process.

Hi! I see you have a fine arts degree, and I was wondering if I could ask about it. I just started attending a state university recently, and I'm considering fine arts as a second major. I just want some information about what the program is like. Obviously it'll vary a bit because different schools, and I'm pretty sure my concentration wouldn't be ceramics, but any general firsthand information is appreciated. ^^ Basically, I'm just curious to know what the fine arts program is like, how time consuming it is, ect. I'm very conflicted because it sounds like fun, but it also sounds very scary. I feel like I need to learn more about the work before I make any decisions. Thank you, and I hope I'm not bothering you!Β

I can tell you about how my degree was and how it will probably be like if the school you go to is similar. First, to get into the major, I had to submit a portfolio, this included ten pieces of art I had made in the last couple years. I would recommend that even if you want to focus on one specific aspect of fine art (so my case, of course, is ceramics) that you submit things from a wide variety of mediums. The people reviewing it will not all be from the same medium and they generally want to see a diversity of it. look at the requirements for joining the major for your school though, some might have it easier or harder. once you have succeeded in being accepted, you can expect a mixture of art classes and art history classes. You will more than likely need both of them (I would be surprised if the school you are at doesn't need art history classes). How time consuming it is after that point is totally up to you and your projects. If you are talking a drawing class and you aren't the best at drawing (or even if you are great at drawing) you will probably be drawing things far bigger than what you are used to and you could end up spending anywhere between a couple hours to 40 hours on one project depending on what it is for that class. probably one of the few classes that didn't take up much time outside of class time was glass blowing for me but that is also because you can't just go glass blow whenever, you need a team behind you while doing it.Β

It can really depend on the class though and how much time you want to put into it to succeed that will define how much time you have to put towards it. I would also recommend that if you want an art degree to take some classes that are either how to get your work out there or a business type class! (unless you just want to take the degree because you want an art degree and you aren't planning on doing art as anything close to a job in the future)Β

Thanks for the reply! The main reason I want an art degree is because I have been interested in art my entire life, so it would mostly be for skill advancement and because I'm passionate about it. Plus it would be nice to have those skills/qualifications if I do decide to do something with art. I'm considering getting a minor in entrepreneurshipΒ if I decide to do something in creative field.Β I honestly really don't know what I plan to do in the future yet, aha. I know my school requires art history courses and a portfolio to gain admission into the program. I'm mostly just curious about the studio work because art classes have always made me nervous, even though I've taken several throughout my life. Roughly how much time do they give you on big projects? And do you have to frequently present your work in front of large groups of people? I'm sure there's no for-sure answer since, like I said, different schools and such, but in your experience...? Thanks again!

They will give you enough time that you shouldn't feel pressured or time-crunched on the assignment most likely. Some classes will tell you when they will start the project and when it will be due at the beginning of the quarter, so you can kind of plan like that. Some might even give you the assignment earlier and then elaborateΒ on it when the time comes to actually start them. Probably for me, one of the most nervous things I had to do was just paint someone in the nude, mostly because I don't have as much confidence in my drawing as I do my 3d art. Good experience,Β just worried about it. You will have to present probably in any art studio type class. Probably only to your class, not like a huge crowd of people but the 12-20 people in your class. It is something I highly recommend you get used to and participate in as it helps you as much as it helps others! Cheers!

Oh man, I'll definitely need to work on my oral communication then, aha. I'll keep everything you said in mind, and I'll research/ask around about the program some more these next few months to determine whether I should start taking the core design classes next fall. Thank you for the help!

It is very informal when talking about the works. At least at my classes it was. Think of it almost like talking to a friend, which if you want, you could even have a friend to practice that part if you are really worried about it!
