Be supportive, be safe, be outspoken, be loud, but most importantly, be proud. Be OUT. I don't think there's anything we can do to help others more than to be an unafraid example.

Yeah, my first gf was somewhat closeted, and I never was. It was a problem; I'd never date a closet-case now (not seriously anyway). But it is high school - everyone's gotta come out at their own pace, seeing as they still live with parents and they have to be sure they're safe and all that. College is better. WAY better. (And I would wait until then to drink, particularly because you may let something slip.) But same advice applies - set a fine example of being happy out and proud and it seems much less scary to come out. Just because your S.O. is closeted doesn't mean you have to be; it just means you have to be cautious.
