DO NOT commission this person. I have been waiting for NINE MONTHS for some art, which is nowhere near getting completed let alone started. I have asked for a refund but they said I now have to wait another month.

as a note: do not dogpile this individual, do not harass them, merely block if you must and do not engage needlessly. i will block users who harass this individual.
this individual has collected thousands of dollars with a massive to do list and has completed minimal amounts of his to do list. what artwork was delivered has been deemed not to the quality of the examples on the original advertisements. as well, they were collecting donations to acquire ownership of a horse, a decision that should not be taken lightly due to the high cost of upkeep with these types of animals.

i am unable to defend myself on the 'Artists beware' post as the OP has blocked me.
Since this post has been made approx. 4 months ago, I have completed about 30% of my 50+ client to-do list. I have registered as self-employed and have tracked my income for my tax returns (including income I receive from commissions).
I am getting to your commissions.
I will NOT be tackling a to-do list this size ever again.
I am giving out refunds.
I am communicating with my clients WHO ARE WILLING TO BE PROFESSIONAL AND EASY TO WORK WITH.
I am making accommodations to those who request them (i.e. design discounts, partial refunds, reference changes, etc.)
i am trying to get through these commissions as efficiently as possible. i recently got a new computer that was supposed to make my software run better. turns out i need a $40 adapter cable that i currently cannot afford. you are welcome to judge me and how i handle my business as much as you like to--i will not try to persuade you to think one way or another, but at least hear both sides and come to an understanding.

Honestly I'm surprised this is still going on, but I'll throw in my two cents:
You need to be the professional person in this circumstance and reach out to your commissioners to ask them what they would like to do before they reach a breaking point. Some people do not like confrontation and will thus avoid reaching out about refunds/status updates/etc, but that makes it no less wrong to take advantage of them.
You as the artist should be playing a role in attempting to touch base with your commissioners and actively give them a choice: if they would rather wait for the art or if they would like a refund.
Waiting until your commissioners are so fed up that they demand a refund does you absolutely no benefit.
Remember that you may have finished 30% of your list - but it's been over 8 months since you took on these commissions, all the while people have watched you produce countless personal works instead of the work owed to them. I hope you would understand where the commissioners' frustration comes from.
