Lol, because I have no idea how, therefore calling myself a real artist. I can't photoshop anything for my life :/

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GermanyTwoGermany In reply to learntosayhello [2009-07-15 17:46:00 +0000 UTC]

Oh well, I used to think of it the same way...but I realize photoshop seems to just be another medium. So...I tend to change that thinking. Now I just think artists who don't use photoshop should have more respect. Since...it's kind of hard to undo a mistake in say...oil paints XD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

learntosayhello In reply to GermanyTwoGermany [2009-07-15 17:48:09 +0000 UTC]

Lol well, it was only a joke anyway. But yeah, that is true. I've seen photoshop before and afters, it's amazing how somebody with no talent on paper can make something so beautiful with photoshop. Nevertheless, it's still a form of art, and most of what they do still comes out pretty And I don't even risk it with oil paints. It's all pencil for me, lol.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GermanyTwoGermany In reply to learntosayhello [2009-07-16 15:34:10 +0000 UTC]

Oil paints take a lot of patience...and they are expensive so I dun touch them either |D;;
But pencil is always fun <333

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

learntosayhello In reply to GermanyTwoGermany [2009-07-16 16:23:03 +0000 UTC]

I know, you always have so much more control with a pencil. What do you usually use, by the way? You have such a nice gallery :]

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GermanyTwoGermany In reply to learntosayhello [2009-07-16 17:52:29 +0000 UTC]

UWAH Thank you so much;;; <333 I use lots of things ;o;
Lately I've gotten to do more with my tablet and a strange program that isn't Photoshop o.O
But mostly pencil and inking pens...those microns? Good ol' prisma coloured pencils and markers. <3 In fact...all of my pictures were drawn in my sketchbook before I coloured them with the computer.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

learntosayhello In reply to GermanyTwoGermany [2009-07-16 22:23:17 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome! And honestly... what's a tablet? :] Everybody always says,
"Oh, I drew this entire thing on my tablet,"
And I'm like, "Oh.. that's nice."
I've heard prismacolor was like, awesome. I've seen people color pictures amazingly with those markers. I've seen them in the store and I honestly don't know how, I'd ruin the entire thing :/ And same for the sketchbook bit. I can't draw anything with mouse, so when I tried photoshop I just gave up with the lineart.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GermanyTwoGermany In reply to learntosayhello [2009-07-17 03:58:00 +0000 UTC]

I can't draw with a mouse to save my life! D:
A tablet is like...a drawing pad...that you have a pen thing and it draws on the computer! :3 I dunno how to explain.
Ah...I am a big fan of prisma colour-pencils <3 The markers...are so expensive though. ;3;
They are very wonderful, fast and fun to use, however! And it just takes practice...if you aren't comfortable colouring the original, then just make a copy and colour that first :'D
And I have to scan my sketchbook...I just sometimes colour them on computer...Not always.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

learntosayhello In reply to GermanyTwoGermany [2009-07-17 13:44:43 +0000 UTC]

I know, drawing with a mouse is sooo hard. I have.. two prismacolor pencils, lol. I found them somewhere. But I have the flesh colored one, which is really helpful for coloring skin. And yeah, it's about 3 dollars a marker. I just color them on my sketchbook. With photoshop there's too many layers and colors and tools and I don't know how to use any of it :/

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GermanyTwoGermany In reply to learntosayhello [2009-07-17 13:54:47 +0000 UTC]

Eh? I wouldn't worry about the pencils you use. Just as long as they aren't Roseart XD;; (I used to take all the prismapencils my art teacher had mixed in a bin with all the roseart and crayolas before I actually got a job XD)
But I substitute the colours I don't have of Prisma with just regular old Crayola <3
You just have to know how to work their magic...which I still don't... 8D;;
And layers and tools and all that jazz of the computer programs...I kind of just...wing it? XD;; I don't know how to work it professionally at all lol.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

learntosayhello In reply to GermanyTwoGermany [2009-07-17 15:07:09 +0000 UTC]

My mother was an artist, so I use her colored pencils. I didn't find out until recently that they barely had red. I saw "Scarlet Lake," and "Deep Vermilion," and they both looked like orange to me. The Crimson Lake was purple! I really wanted to color in his shirt red... :[ Crayola of course should have been a good substitute, but I had already used brown before I could realize it.
And I guess I shouldn't totally give up on photoshop, but I really just like having total control over my picture, so I keep it tangible And I wouldn't know how to work their magic either... I just use a whole mixture of colors and then I hope it comes well XD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GermanyTwoGermany In reply to learntosayhello [2009-07-17 15:19:11 +0000 UTC]

Oh that's lucky! My mama only did the oil paints and...I used to run my finger down it...thinking it was dry |D;;
I don't mess with it at all XD;;
D: It's helpful to also use a test paper to see what colours they are! Use the standard last-paper-of-sketchbook page for tests! XD
Yes! It's good to familiarize yourself with different mediums. But I know what you mean about having control of what you draw. I find it a lot more enjoyable using traditional mediums. Pencil is always...my favourite and most preferable <3

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

learntosayhello In reply to GermanyTwoGermany [2009-07-17 17:05:26 +0000 UTC]

Any paints and oils or pastels are just too risky D:
And yeah, I use the last page of my sketchbook to test colors, or a crappy one I just have near me.
When you use photoshop it comes out a lot more professional and better looking you would think, but if you don't know how to use it... it turns out like crap XD
How much were your prismacolors? I've been wanting to get my own set
Pencils are one of the few tools that are erasable XD That's also why I like them so very, very much.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GermanyTwoGermany In reply to learntosayhello [2009-07-18 20:06:31 +0000 UTC]

I guess photoshop can be your best friend or your worst enemy XD;;
Ah...I dun know what you mean...but my markers (set of 50) was roughly $80...and the set of 72 pencils was $120 ;3; I had to save up lol. Whole paychecks. But then I just buy random markers here and there (Like the colours I need). But like I said earlier, other colour pencils I don't have...I just use crayola. Or mix them very carefully...
BUT YES OMG I LOVE PENCILS FOR THAT VERY SAME REASON XD;;

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

learntosayhello In reply to GermanyTwoGermany [2009-07-18 22:51:33 +0000 UTC]

72 Pencils for $120 :/ I'll find a way. I'll probably either clear out my bank account or keep begging my mom :] Do you use watercolors? One of the sets I have are watercolor colored pencils, but I don't know whether or not it would be smart to use them like that. Most of the colors are very nice on their own, dry, but I don't like wetting my drawing. It would make me nervous xD When I tried the prismacolor markers in the store, I seem to remember they were very deep, and they bled through. Are the ones you have like that? Because I don't know whether or not the purchase would be worth it if they did that. But looking at some of the art people have done with them, I don't know...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GermanyTwoGermany In reply to learntosayhello [2009-07-20 14:36:53 +0000 UTC]

XD; Yes, I suppose begging is always nice lol.
I have never used watercolour pencils but I do use cheap watercolour for practice.
But I wouldn't just jump in head first with pictures you love and aren't comfortable with in using certain mediums...it's always just good to practice elsewhere until you are comfortable.
Prisma...I think are very nice in a sense that they bleed a lot so the colours blend easier...kind of like using a heavy watercolour pen XD
I think the Copic markers are much nicer (more expensive OTL) but they blend so beautifully...
But personally, I think it really depends on the paper you use. Obviously it'll bleed through if you're using thin drawing paper. But also be aware that "drawing" and "sketching" paper are quite different. |D; I like using thick sketch/water paper (I can't remember the weight...). I like it to pick up a lot of pencil grain (even if it smears alot...HURRAY FOR FIXATIVE <3) XD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

learntosayhello In reply to GermanyTwoGermany [2009-07-20 14:47:09 +0000 UTC]

I used watercolors for one or two of my pictures. They came out quite nice, but it was difficult to not be messy with the colors xD I've never really had that problem until now (since I use the wonderful pencil). I know somebody's going to comment, "Oh, nice job coloring inside the lines."
I think I use sketching paper. To my surprise the water was fine on the paper I use and didn't go through or anything, which is always lovely. Maybe I'll pick up a couple of basic prisma markers and see how they work. What do you use to outline everything, like the lineart? (I use a sharpie )
My mom went into my room and she's like, "Are these my colored pencils!?" And she took them away before I could tell her that she told me I could use them... She's going to have to buy me my own, but not "the most expensive" i.e prisma. But I won't ramble on about my mother xD
I use white watercolor pencil to fix my mistakes. It.. sort of works.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GermanyTwoGermany In reply to learntosayhello [2009-07-20 18:43:18 +0000 UTC]

XD Ah, it's always fun when they come out like you want <3
For lineart? I use those micron pens...Variable sizes from .001 to 1. Also different colours in those are awesome. But sharpie generally works the same...I just think it bleeds too much for me XD. It's also hard to find a sharpie point that goes to .001 and .01. Which are the sizes I use most.
To fix things? I, no joke, use white out. A paintbrush and white out...unless I have white acrylic paint. <3333

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

learntosayhello In reply to GermanyTwoGermany [2009-07-21 15:34:44 +0000 UTC]

When I usually use sharpie, I don't even consider being able to erase it. Acrylic paint, you say? Hmm :]
I don't look at the size really - a small size is a small size. What would you use the various sizes for? I guess it would be helpful for the smaller details... I've never really learned how to add small details like that.
Micron pens sound cool XD Maybe I'll try those.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GermanyTwoGermany In reply to learntosayhello [2009-07-21 16:22:55 +0000 UTC]

I guess I'm just used to it XD BUT It's...good to have variable sizes. After all, your hand will get tired inking in a big spot with such a small size XD And like you said, smaller details are harder.
If you do buy one (Since they also tend to be a little costly the more you buy them) Go with .03. It's a decent size. Not too large or small. <3

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

learntosayhello In reply to GermanyTwoGermany [2009-07-21 16:36:07 +0000 UTC]

.03 it is. And I checked out your gallery and I saw Mello! <3 And you're right about that, it would be annoying to scribble all over a large spot with a tiny pen.
Do you know those white pens that people use for a nice, shiny effect? Like in this picture: [link]
The only thing I could think to add real detail to is clothes, and I've never been any good with drawing those XD
By the way, this question is quite random, but what's your native language? I've been sort of convinced it's english since you know it so well xD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GermanyTwoGermany In reply to learntosayhello [2009-07-21 17:52:26 +0000 UTC]

A;LSKDJF;ALSDKFJ;;;; I don't even really like Mello. I love Near lol. <333
Um...that person used white ink for that picture. From my own experience...I like only using white ink for watercolour and marker only. Like I said, I only really use white out since I'm poor XD;;
But I use white acrylic paint to go over things like coloured pencil (mainly when I make mistakes...)
My native tongue? It's English *100% American* XD; I'm glad I don't screw it up! I try not to. How shameful to destroy your own language XD; *mispells a lot though... OTL*
What is your native language? :3

Oh! Your thing said you were from Svalbard and your signature was Lithuanian, so I was like, "Where is this person from?" Haha, I love Near <3 So easy to color in too, lol.
I just thought the effect was cool, and I see it all the time. I always wondered what the hell they used.
Mello is mean :/ Of course, out of all the characters in that series, L just tops them all. <3 <3 <3 Aha, I just love that series way too much. And you did a good job coloring Mello I saw the comment where the person was like, "Oh, she's so pretty!" But I can't say I'm not guilty of making that mistake before either xD
Lol, American too :] Now I feel stupid for asking XD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GermanyTwoGermany In reply to learntosayhello [2009-07-21 20:04:01 +0000 UTC]

Ah, nei. Svalbard is just a random place o3o;; And I was...learning Lithuanian but gave up. XD;;;
Near is easy to colour, but I like colouring people with dark hair...IDK, it's so much more fun because you can actually grasp the colour before it's all over XD
But yeah, I decided to let it go XD
and don't worry about it. I'm don't think you're stupid XD
