hey can i get some tips on saving cost the 120 film? what i mean is, since it only has 12 exposures i wanna make some pictures with mulitiple exposures or maybe plenty of pictures in one frame.

i'm using diana F+ now.

curlandgrazes In reply to Meqbook [2012-05-28 21:54:35 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure about the medium format Dianas, but with the mini you can advance the film part way and then take another shot which gets you a kind of half multi exposed picture and half frame. Possibly?

hi, i've got a question about the diana f+? i'm interested in buying one, but does it only take 120 film? because when i tried to get that film developed from my holga, it cost $60, which is too expensive for me.
would my kodak 35mm ISO 400 film be alright for the diana?
thankyou!!!!

mollymelone In reply to juliette82 [2010-10-30 17:14:47 +0000 UTC]

It does only take 120mm except if you buy the 35mm back, as mentioned. It's something I am going to do because as much as I like 120 films, you don't have many choices in film (like redscale and awesome film like that) and you just basically waste a lot of film since it only exposes a pretty small frame. And 12 shots a film is pretty little, especially if not all pictures turned out great.

60$ for getting a 120 film developped??? mine costs about 6$- plus the printing.

Besaw In reply to juliette82 [2010-10-29 17:21:37 +0000 UTC]

Yes, the vanilla Diana only takes 120 film. The Diana F+ also has an instant film attachment available. I'm an instant film junkie so I plunked the money down on it but it can be a bit expensive. It takes Fuji Instax mini film.

That's odd that getting 120 film developed was so expensive. Was it for a single roll? I go through a photo lab about two hours away and they only charge me about $11 per roll including prints. Another option you can explore is that some companies online will allow you to mail the rolls to them and they will send prints back to you, but I do not know how much they charge. I hope that answered some of your questions!

chinty In reply to juliette82 [2010-10-04 09:13:42 +0000 UTC]

I don't own a Diana F+ but yes it does only take 120 film unless you buy the 35mm back. There are probably tipsters about modifying it to take 35mm without a back just like the Holga so you;d have to decide whether you'd like to pay more for convenience. I have a Holga and I love it but I wanted to use 35mm so I got a Diana Mini which can take up to 72 shots so it's very economical. If you look for photos taken by a Diana F+ and compare them to Holga pictures they basically do the same effect so if you want an easy 35mm option go for a Diana Mini or a Holga 35mm.

i think i'll get the diana mini do you think it's worth getting the flash as well?

chinty In reply to juliette82 [2010-10-05 11:21:35 +0000 UTC]

yeah i borrowed my friend's flash for a while but it's definitely worth getting your own. I got mine separately but there's probably a pack you can get with both and save a bit of money. Just make sure you don't lose the colour gels like my friend did

Hi! I've been looking at some lomo photos and have to say they are gorgeous!

I was wondering if anyone would be willing to talk to me about lomo. I don't know a lot about it, and I've been having a hard time finding something that satisfies all my questions, or even gives me a good solid basic intro.

Some of the questions I have are:

Where do you buy your film? How expensive is it?

Where do you develop your film?

What kind of film?

What kind of lomo camera do you reccommend for what?

Is it easy for some silly little college kid to do lomo?

Things like that. Thank you all!

I'm from Australia so the prices and availability is always relative to your area but I can give you a general idea.
I found colour film at Kmart for $6 for 4 rolls, it's unbranded and does the job. Now that's really cheap so you'd probably want to find something similar or you can be paying over $10 for one roll. It's always best to buy bulk.
I get my film developed in my city, they do it for free for develop only as I don't get prints and just scan them to my computer. Sometimes they change their minds and it's not free so at most other places development on it's own is $10 and then you pay extra for the prints.
The film I've been talking about is 35mm film. I'd recommend starting out with a camera that takes 35mm film because it's the cheapest and easiest to get developed. I do have cameras that take medium format film, 120, but the rolls and development are usually more expensive and harder to get, but sometimes they have really great results so maybe buy a 120 camera once you've gotten used to 35mm.
As I said I would recommend something 35mm. I have a Diana Mini and it's perfect for first timers. It's small, lightweight and easy to use. You can have up to 72 half frame shots so it's also very economical. I carry it around with me every day so I would recommend it. If your looking for something different then you can commit to getting a Fisheye or an Action Sample or Super Sampler. I would only recommend these if you don't mind having the same effect on all your pictures.
If you haven't already have a look at the lomography international website [link] where you can find out more about pricing and the cameras. I have never bought film from them but it might turn out cheaper for you.
And yes, college kids can do lomo!

Oh you are fantastic! Thank you!

So you say you don't get prints, you scan to the computer. Do you scan the film, or...?

Thank you for the link, I'll be checking that out! <3

chinty In reply to Evanescent-Chaos [2010-09-01 02:32:05 +0000 UTC]

I scan the negatives directly to my computer. I have an Epson Perfection V700 which is a top of the range scanner, I got it as a present but I'm pretty sure my Dad paid about $1000 for it. You can buy little scanners that specifically scan negatives so you're best off going into a office supply store.
Here's one I found, just so you can get an idea [link]
the only problem with that one is if you have overlapping frames or half shots it might not scan that well. Most photo shops can scan your film to cd but it usually has a fee. You can always the the prints done and scan them to your computer with a normal flatbed scanner

Hmmm ok. That last one sounds the best for me. Hard copies and computer!

Again thank you!
