Hi, If you ever get an answer about using old magazine ads for your source, I would like to know what the "official" answer is.
I've tried to research. Always find conflicting answers.
Like your work. If you have a chance, consider yourself invited to my "place"...

I tried to research this because I love this art, as you can tell. I usually try to limit myself to 4 of one artist,
at least, at one time. 
But in your case, it was one of those, just one more, just that one and I'll stop, oh, but I love that one too...
There wasn't one I didn't "want".
I had an antique store and still have some of my emphemera, which I would love to use. I read somewhere anything before, about 1923 I think, is now open. But then, some places warn unless the copyright was purchased by someone...HOW are we suppose to find that out?
I actually read a big thick book, just on this subject. I just cried and put my paints away for a few days. That source made me feel like if I painted a rose, I was pirating.
Some say as long as you change it some percentage...that number varies,
depending on which source you quote. I read criticism of art schools who taught this % thing as all wrong.
I finally decided, until I made my first million off an image, I'd "take my chances". The big fat scary book that made me cry
showed art that looked like a 5th grader had copied some famous artist,
(those old little girl quaker images?) It said that artist was fined like $25,000,,,,WHAT? ~

I hear your horribly depressingly busy and raise you another, just the same! This is the first chance in weeks I've had of sitting down to a computer. and it'll be days before I can do it again!
And please, don't worry about journals and stuff in message centres - you have my sympathy on that one. I've just deleted 200 journals of my watch... :S
