I was reading your journal and I kinda see what you mean. Though I like to try different brushes to see how they affect the outcome since GIMP doesn't blend strokes well.. But I get annoyed when people are like, "Teach me how to draw!" You can't teach someone to draw like you teach math. I just don't think it works that way. I mean, I guess you can show how you do a specific thing, but how the hell do you teach someone to draw? You pick up a writing utensil and make a picture. BAM you drew something. You can give tips and all, but not "how to draw." (Man, I sound harsh..) And art class.. it never really teaches you how to draw, I think it just lets you try different methods, media, and learn about how color and composition and etc. affect everything (which I think it great cuz otherwise I probably would've never tried some of those methods). Drawing - It's practice and learning everything around it, paying attention, and more practice.. It's not something you're born with, it's something you dedicate yourself to.. Ya know?

Idk, imo teaching someone techniques to use and details to observe when drawing from life is essentially teaching them to draw in the mechanical sense of how and where to put pencil to paper and so on. Whether they'll draw well is something else. It's true that they won't get anywhere without putting in their own effort, though.
