I haven't been answering because I've moved twice in the past three weeks and am in the middle of moving right now. Believe me, I want to answer, I'll have a better answer for you in the next couple of hours, but for right now, I have to keep packing and cleaning (and it's taking a much longer time than I anticipated). I have 8 hours before the electricity is turned off and 12 hours before the deadline. Please understand!
I am really, really, really sorry for all of this! I don't want you to do badly because I fail at my life. :C
So! Short answer:
By dimensional magic, I mean more like transportation magic. She can open and close portals to other worlds. Kytrynn is a dick like that and doesn't move her around, so she has to provide her own transportation.
Her world originally had no magic. Worlds can be categorized into two basic types: science-based and magic-based. Like ours, Knives' home world is science-based.
Kytrynn hasn't answered Knives' questions as to why she was chosen because there is no answer; Kytrynn decided she liked the potential and the spark this kid had, and since she'd been looking for an apprentice anyway, she just whisked her off.
Knives' birth name is Angelica, Jelly is what her family called her for short. She has two sisters, younger and older, a birth father and a birth mother. Her family was not very close--blood was not thicker than water in this case. Her father was physically and verbally abusive and both parents were often busy with their jobs, so she and her sisters were usually left to their own devices, and they indulged in escapism in various forms whenever they could, usually books. She and her sisters were also all very interested in the sciences, but that was a secret that they kept from their parents and from each other.
I don't think I mentioned this in the character sheet (which was very bad of me, very, very bad) but Knives' greatest fault is her inability to relate to others on more than a shallow level. She is a good leader and a more or less reliable ally, but she does not make true friends easily or often. Romance is something that usually eludes her between her day job and her own personal issues. It is very common for other people to feel like they are close to her when she doesn't reciprocate, and she is perfectly happy to let them feel like that if it means the job gets done more efficiently. Generally what happens is once a job is finished, she goes on her merrily cynical way and never contacts her former clients ever again. Someone must be very special for her to come to their world twice or talk to them ever again. While the upside of this is that her few friendships are on a very deep level and she would risk serious harm to help them, she only has two (possibly three if you count Kytrynn) friends in all of the worlds she has traveled through, which given that the average adventure takes place over a period of about three to five weeks, is hundreds. She is very lonely.
Her construct is triangle-shaped--think like a yield or caution sign.
