One of the most extraordinary, talented, and intelligent men I have ever had the privilege to know passed away today after a valiant battle with cancer.
You all knew him as "PepperW", I knew him as Richard.
For the past 16 years, we have talked, worked, laughed, greeted each others grandchildren into this world and drank a ton of Dr Pepper together.
He was an extraordinary artist, a great boss, a great employee; we had so many awesome work "adventures" together, and, without a doubt, the best listener I have ever met. He actually heard what was being said to him, and you could always expect a thoughtful, intelligent response.
My deepest sympathy goes out to his beloved family, most, if not all, I also had the privilege to know.
He loved deviantart, not only as a showplace for his work, but for the artists that he got to know here. I'll never forget the time he called me and directed me to this site. Richard was one of the "cleanest" men I ever met - never any sexual innuendos in anything he said or did, never a dirty word, never a dirty joke, so when he wanted me to check out a place with the word "deviant" in the name I was pretty stunned! He got a good laugh out of my reaction to the name, but what's in a name? I spent many an hour here, enjoying not only his work, but that of the many talented artists that also posted here.
We used to joke that we would grow old, sitting on the porch in rocking chairs, drinking Dr Pepper and watching our grandchildren grow up. That is not to be.
Richard, my dear friend, you will be greatly missed. I am hoping when you reached the pearly gates, my beloved son, Jared was there to greet you. Tell him for me that mom loves and misses him so much. The two of you save a place for me - I'll be along before you know it, and we'll then, sit in those rocking chairs, and (if there really is a heaven it will be stocked with ice cold Dr Pepper), from that perch, we can drink our DP's and watch our grandchildren grow old.
Rest In Peace, dear friend, until we meet again......
