Your skills with color and texture are truly inspiring.
If you don't mind me asking, do you have any advice for delving into dramatic and/or unusual lighting conditions, particularly for skin?
I'm always timid about using ambient lighting on skin (especially colored light), for one because I don't exactly know how and for another, because I'm afraid it will just turn out garish.
Like you've done quite subtly in these two works, for example: Trevelyan PrideΒ Inquisitor Lavellan

Thank you so much, you are very kind.
I'm not quite sure how much help I would be, as most of what I do feels a lot like trial and error (which is why I've never attempted to do a process piece), but as far as skin and lighting, I will admit I'm a huge fan of colors. Sometimes it can be very subtle, but if you look closely you will see there are a range of colors on the skin in my work - blues, greens, red, purple, and the skin shade. That tends to help me process the work through whatever light I might subject it to, since the skin is already adapt to the environment's colors around it.
Looking at references might help. Study some photographs where there are colored lights, they would be a great help in deciding how the skin absorbs colors. Especially ones where the light only hits on one side, so you have a variation of what is 'natural' light, and what is the colored light. Lighter skin doesn't take in a color as strongly, be mindful of that. To be honest the Trevelyan Pride piece is one of my earliest works, I really just used the Gradient Tool to throw the light in at around 50%, then used a lighter shade of that color to hit the edges and where I felt the skin would show its 'shine'.

You know, I hadn't thought about working in the color as I go...I tend to just try to put it on top of everything else (and it looks that way, too ).
Thank you for your time and your advice; I really appreciate it.

Thank you, you're very kind.
Honestly most of it is just practice and experimenting with colors and style. Just keep drawing, and use references/sketch often to help you strengthen understanding of color and form.
