Hi guys- for christmas I got some ear stretchers from a friend and shortly after I got an ear stud in order to begin stretching them in a few months.

But the stretching isn't the problem.
for some backstory, when I was younger I had both of my ears pierced. I was about 4 when I had them done and I stopped wearing them at ~6. I haven't worn anything in my pierced holes in my ears since then, and I managed to get my new studs in pain free.
So, the holes remained open.
My question is, seeing as they were pierced, will I still need to clean the ear and watch out for infection, or is it all clear?
