"To tolerate a behavior is to support it, and to support it is to promote it."

How can you possibly believe that? Apart from the fallacy of the first statement it is abhorrently facist. To tolerate behaviour that you don't believe in is to understand that your own opinions on life might not be the supreme truth and so shouldn't be inflicted on others.

A world without tolerance would leave few alive.

plusx200 In reply to klowne [2006-03-19 20:30:44 +0000 UTC]

The was a statement a friend told me a long time ago in regards to a relationship.

While I agree that is does appear facist, are there not practices that you yourself hold such distain for that you would not associate yourself with those who do them?

This was mainly the thrust of the statement, for as you say that a world without tolerance would leave few alive, so too would a world with total tolerance (think if everyone just tolerated a mad man's behavior, or a rapist , or a serial killer, etc.)

Instead of being totaly one way or the other, one needs to use their own personal disgression to determine which practices to tolerate and which not to. And simple put, if you can not tolerate a certain behavior then it is also your responcibility to remedy the situation. This is not to say you attack the other person whose behavior you cannoot tolerate, instead you find a way to deal with the behavior whether through avoidance, debate, or constructive intervention.

Perhaps though I should reword the statement to better reflect that instead of having people draw the conclusion that you have. Any suggestions?

Ok, that's much better than what I read initially and I agree with you I think!

How about something along the lines of watching behaviours you dislike without voicing your opinion is the same as being content with them. But, um, elegantly and soundbitey as before.

What about you? Still taking courses and shooting away? Hope all is going well for you.

Thanks for taking the time to give me some very appreciated positive feedback, Mike! Always nice to read your comments. Let me respond to some of them (btw, I'm not spamming ):

Walking Away DG and Walking Away v2 DG :
I actually didn't do anything to the contrast. These versions basicly still resemble the original very much (could send it to you, if you would like to compare). Besides, it's the best I could do to/with a badly taken photograph. You may be right on taking it from another angle next time, but then again, this is just a "snapshot".

Dream Girl DG :
Thanks! I had to crop out quite a lot, but I guess it turned out fairly nice. Achieving the right blur-setting was kinda tough though. I didn't want it to look too soft and yet I wanted it to have this dreamy effect.

Bearing :
Yeah, funny isn't it. Although I actually think that they are playing instead of you-know-what... Funny, I didn't get a policy violation on this.
And yeah, just snapshots again. I wasn't really anxious to get down there to shoot it from a better angle.

St. Jansberg :
I don't think it's a grave. If it were, then it would be the only grave in the whole forest. I think it is some kind of "marking stone" (bad english?) which marks the highest point of a hill or mountain. 'St. Jansberg' translates into 'Saint John's Mountain/Hill'. And the highest point would be 78 meters. (which is not very high, I know )

Thanks for the comments again.

My best explanation would be to see it more like a painting than a photo. It has been intentionally manipulated for you to notice those details. It’s a hard thing to explain. A warm sadness if that makes sense? I see it as a painting that has had paint thinner thrown at the canvas, just enough to peel away a layer. I find that sad but beautiful at the same time. Sort of describes her at this moment. Thanks for examining it and asking. Hope that helps.

Have you ever had a dream, that you were so sure was real? What if you were unable to wake from that dream? How would you know the difference between the dream world and the real world?

What you know you can't explain, but you feel it. You've felt it your entire deviant life, that there's something wrong with the story. You don't know what it is, but it's there, like a splinter in your mind, driving you mad.

You take the blue pill, the story ends. Your browser closes and you believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill, you stay in wonderland. And, I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.

I offer only the truth, nothing more.

Take: The Red Pill
Take: The Blue Pill

spyed, nobody has ever done this before.
I know. That's why it's going to work.

Hey man, I hope I didn't give the impression that I don't appreciate your comments. You're like a balancing force that counteracts all the "I like it" comments. hehe, and like you said, it's like having a professor giving the critique. Hey, and if its warranted, rip apart a photo. I can handle it, lol.

Thanks for everything man. DevArt needs more people like you. Hell, if that was the case, this place would be what it should be; a forum to encourage others, exchange ideas, and recieve helpful suggestions.
